You guys are right.. I'm gonna order some petri dishes and potato dextrose and other shit soon I guess. I just thought that maybe if I followed every step perfectly I would be able to accomplish something for once. But that's just my life, one failure after another. I wish I wasn't too much of a pussy to kill myself.

I can get about 30 lbs of dry rye grain for $12.50 at my local feed store, and after soaking/simmering thats about 75 pounds, so I'll stick to rye grain.

Your weight is more than doubling? That ain't right.
Optimal moisture is around 50% of the dry grain, and since dry has around 12% moisture (you can check it by weighing and oven drying and weighing again) if you start with 1 lb dry you end up about 1.4 lbs after prep not some 2.5 lbs.
Sounds more like a moisture problem shooting you in the foot here.

Well not the weight but you know what I'm talking about. A fully hydrated rye grain is bigger than a dry one, looks almost twice as big. Either way when I'm done, I have a shit ton more rye than when I started. I soak overnight and simmer for 10 mins until the first grains begin to burst, they seem pretty perfect to me.
