CoTW bunker bags
    #22015164 - 07/29/15 01:54 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I am going to transfer chicken of the woods agar to rye and then put the colonized rye Into a burlap sack to colonize wood pellets. I am then going to place the bunker bag on top of hardwood logs. The bunker bag should colonize right through the burlap and make the leap to the bark of the hard woods. In a few seasons after the bunker bag desintigrates  CoTW primordia should be all over the logs and set the stage for chicken of the woods!!! Let me know what you think. In total this teqnique minus the cost of the culture should cost around 15$ a bunker bag
I am going to possibly inoculate a garbage bag of WBS to mix in with the wood pellets to speed up the colonization

Comments??

i think a large bag of grain done in the open air is asking for problems.  but chicken of the woods will colonized a bunch of fuel pellets in the open.  i did it a few years ago in a plastic bin, maybe 10 gallons worth.  i was hoping to fruit it inside but didn't really know what I was doing.  I'd look into the totem pole style of cultivation to get the most mileage out of your burlap sack(s).  that's just taking a handful of spawn and putting it between discs of tree trunks stacked up.

so basically i should leave the sacks to colonize while laying on logs; keep em watered and wet; let the mycellium jump to the logs and then move them to position them between two logs to colonize the logs further?
