my foaf is tired of waiting to case these... these jars are a month old. they took so long because of lack of heat and air exchange but now he has money to get a better heater and next time he'll make the air exchange in the jars better. will anything grow with such thin myc if he cases them? suggestions are welcome....

I'm going to have to go with no to your question...tell your friend that he should use the money that he now has to buy a heater and to give those jars some more time to colonize at temperatures around 85 degrees...they should be more or less covered in white myc. fuzz and it appears that those jars are only about 50% (max) of the way there...

there is something wrong with those jars, if they are a month old they should hvae been covered...let me guess, they never recovered after you shook them?

what happens if he juss cases them so that maybe it will replenish moisture and that way it will have great air exchange? then after a while he places them in the terrium?

what?
they should look a lot more colonised - basically all white - before you go to the next stage. if you decide to go for it anyway, then yes the casing adds moisture... but air exchange?
oh, and i edited your post so you can see the pics (each one has to have a full line to itself or no workee)

If I were you, I'd just start over...follow the popcorn tek to the T and you won't have any problems...just be sure that you keep them between 80 and 85 degrees and your jars should look something like fIsh-in-my-head's in no time. Trust me, when they're ready to be cased you'll know it...you won't have to bother posting here to ask whether or not you should proceed...they'll be totally white. Good luck! ~Shroom
