Lions are bred in Africa specifically for hunting and is a lucrative business for them. As much as a news story this is here, when Africans were asked they knew nothing about it and couldn't have cared any less.

the accuracy of a bow starts to really go down the further you get away.. 15 yards is a good starting point.

I'm just saying this to illustrate how close you are when you're hunting with a bow. I've shot between 10-30 yards. 50+ takes someone extremely skilled to make a good shot

Bow hunting(at least without all the scopes and shit) requires the need to get close to get a good shot. When you're farther away, you can't just shoot straight at a certain distance, you have to shoot at an angle. But doing that isn't always good because of trees or bushes or any cover really.
Actually a lot of traditional bow techniques is getting the hunter 10-15 yards from your kill before shooting.
Also spear hunting is pretty intense. I've hunted boar with a spear. Never hunted with a spear thrower though, not really the best with it.

A friend of mine just bought a spear to hunt deer with I'm looking foward to seeing if he'll be able to get good enough with it to hunt. They should just send that guy out with a spear to kill the lion

Killing lions with a spear would be way easier than a deer.
You just piss off the lion and wait for it to run into your spear.

Is it a throwing spear or a heavy spear? I can't imagine getting close enough to a deer to stab it. Throwing though would be easier, but you need to get 10-15 feet from the deer. It's possible but you need to be really skilled. I'd also suggest wearing shoes with no soles like mocassins or just go barefoot.
I hunt in mocassins when i go bow hunting, closest I've gotten has been about 15-20 feet.

Wait...there's another serial killer in the news.
"Doctor becomes second American named in African lion-killing investigation: Pittsburgh gynecologist who has posed with dead elephants, hippos, zebras and ostriches 'killed lion in illegal hunt'". http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3183020/Doctor-second-American-named-African-lion-killing-investigation-Pittsburgh-gynecologist-posed-dead-elephants-hippos-zebras-ostriches-water-buffalo-accused-killing-lion.html
People gonna love to hate him, too.
Dr. Jan Seski poses here with what appears to be a tiny deer he killed on a hunt in Africa
And this cat kinda reminds me of somebody here...

Yeah well I think the way ancient hunters would do it before guns is to use teams to spring traps and ambushes, as well as using human's unmatched endurance to track the animal over time until it will actually just stop, maybe even die from exhaustion, or you can just walk up and kill it. That is after maybe a day or so of solid jogging and tracking, there aren't any land animals that I know of that could outrun humans over time.
I think they probably preferred meat with alot of lactic acid in it because that is what they're used to eating, but to us it would probably taste gamey and I think most modern hunters want quick clean kills for ethics and taste, but they ain't got nothing on what people have done with rocks, sticks, and a bit of teamwork.

There are still tribes around the world that run down deer.
And you're right about the endurance thing, the members of these tribes run until the deer or other animal passes out from exhaustion and then they kill it.

I can't imagine humans being able to outrun an animal over time. You can shoot a deer in vital organs and it might run over 1/2 mile

Over a half mile? That's cute?
People can run for like hundreds of miles. Humans are the only mammals capable of endurance running

u basically chase it for days so it cant drink or eat n they die of exhaustion it takes like nothing n its one of the oldest teks but u need to be hella nomadic and u could get screwed over pretty easy.
