Just FYI but those tickets are SUPER expensive. Last I saw an NFL game, 1 ticket was going for like $500. NBA is more doable, you can get seats for under $50, but they're going to be the highest seats up where you can barely see anything

I will pay for a better seat If I'm possibly not going to get the chance again, I'd like a decent seat for sure.
NFL may be a miss.. I am still highly considering it though. It's a contact sport.. us Aussie's love contact sport! Though all that padding and helmets :P
I do have other family in Maryland, so I will no doubt be back in the next few years to see them also and revisit my sister.

Crystal G said: Oh, and you should definitely eat at In-N-Out Burger while your'e in Cali. It's available in only a couple of states besides California. Bomb-ass fast food burgers that only cost $2 each. It's not like THE BEST burger ever or anything, I mean it doesn't compare to a gourmet burger obviously, but it's something California is really famous for.
Whitecastle Burger is famous in northern California like around the San Francisco/Oakland type area. Avoid Oakland though, especially east Oakland, it's very very dangerous. America is full of crime, it's not like your safe Australian country. Keep your wits about you when visiting certain areas in Los Angeles and things like that.
Very true, some of the best dining in cali for sure from many different ethnicity, however in n out kicks the crap out of normal burgers.
Imo just about all of cali is awesome in So cal there's a plethora of beaches,ski/snowboarding resort, whitewater rafting, atv&dirt bike riding and cool forests and deserts including Vaquez rocks which is an awesome place to trip(as long as you have a guide) They filmed a lot of stuff there.
Northern California has some of the most beautiful places in nature, Redwoods and Yosemite being 2 can't misses,San fran,Hollywood,Venice beach,Santa Monica,Pismo,Jalama and tons of other cities are pretty cool to check out.
I could go on for hours about california but those are some of my favorite things bout cali.

They film almost all those beach car commercials on highway one which is right in Northern California. The most beautiful fcking drive along the coast you'll ever have. Also the forests and beaches are some of the best I've been too

Ehhh don't get me wrong, I love In-N-Out, especially for the price ($1.50 for a hamburger or $2 for a cheeseburger, how can you beat that?) but it's nowhere near as good for a gourmet burger. Still, it's worth visiting, just cause Cali is famous for In-N-Out. And of course, it beats the crap out of any fast food burger.

Don't bother skiing in California. He's coming in August, it's not even ski/snowboarding season. White-water rafting is available in Yosemite, and anywhere along the coast there are plenty of waterspouts like waterskiing and jet skiing and going on whale-watching cruises and other cool activities.

In fact, August/September is prime blue-whale watching season in California. I strongly recommend Ocean Institute in Dana Point, the whale watching cruise is run by a team of scientists and biologists so they know their facts and the tour is excellent. I've always seen whales, dolphins, and seals every time I've gone on their cruise. They usually operate on Sunday mornings.
Dana Point is not too far from where your sister is staying either, it's about 30-40 minutes away.

Probably not the best time considering we're in a major drought

Oh yeah, that's true. I forgot about that. For white-water rafting you should look into it. There's a chance it may be available in Yosemite, there's a chance it might not be.
But still, there's always jet skiing and waterskiing, which are some of my favorites, and you can do that on any California beach or coastline.
Definitely hike all the way up to the waterfall when you go to Yosemite, it's what they are famous for.

Yeah that will affect the rapids immensely and probably not be all that great depending on where you are. Forgot to factor that in. I just love whitewater and snowboarding in cali. Probably not the best time for either of those. There's tons of other stuff, rock climbing, spelunking,as CG said whale watching is good this time of year.
Never a bad time to go through Yosemite, the woods in big sur or the redwoods ,still some good fishing(if you like that). Renting dirtbikes or quad runners on the beach dunes is always cool. There's some great hiking trails all over california, I used to go to a place switzerfalls but it was recently ruined by a wildfire and disrespectful tourists and locals.
If you are down for a drive I'd recommend heading up to crater lake in Oregon. Grand canyon is pretty close. If you want to party though go to Vegas or find a festoval quick haha

Lachy said: Hey guys, I'm leaving on the 21st August to go to California to visit my sister. While I'm there I'd like to do my own thing for a few weeks too. Aside from going to vegas for a long weekend.. What are some cool things to do in Cali?
I know a lot of people are going to have trouble understanding my accent from my sister's understanding. She now has the yank accent haha..
Anyway in advance, I appreciate any info that can be offered. Even tips of the way the streets work as I plan to backpack when I go off on my own.
Listen, you're gonna get shot. That's what's gonna happen.
Then they'll charge you 75k to stitch you up.
Is the US really the place you want to go to?
