What are oysters supposed to taste like?
    #22011740 - 07/28/15 08:00 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I cooked up my third batch of fresh oysters today. I simply throw them in a pan and fry for a few minutes in canola oil. They taste good enough that I can happily eat an entire plate full, but I'm unsure how much of the flavor is actually coming from the oyster. I'm not much of a cook, and I keep hearing that frying in vegetable oil makes anything taste good. The mushies have a really desirable texture, but there's nothing memorable about the flavor for me. The few on my plate that were less browned as a result of less oil tasted rather bland. Someone said seafood. I don't taste it. I've already given out a few pounds to friends and coworkers, all of whom expressed their devout satisfaction with the mushrooms. But was that genuinely generated by taste, or by the fact that they received free mushrooms from a young man trying to grab a foothold in the local food market? Fresh grown oysters net a high price, and I want to know that people are getting what they are paying for so to speak.

Hey man no one is going to lie and say your mushrooms are good if they are not, most people are quick to express their distaste for mushrooms! Keep doin what ur doing and ask around for some recipes. I heard cooking in wine is better than oil but I don't know because my first batch of oysters hasn't flushed yet. Good luck and remember recipe is everything!

Ps most people cant handle the whole fungus thing and instantly disregard mushrooms as a meal. However you have some happy eaters and possibly a market. Good luck!
