Catastrophic Event

I was watering the cactus and I was literally one foot away from the column of San Pedro when it came crashing down. Motherfucker, where are your roots? What a measly rootball for such a large stand of cactus. Thank goodness no one was hurt. Cactus are dangerous.

well, even if you happened to get hit by the falling cactus, it wouldn't have hurt you too much, it's not a Carnegiea Luckily you didin't so that's all fine.
Are those hallow woody trunks on the ground also trichs?

Wow! As you said, Where are the roots on that thing? I really would have expected a lot more of a root ball there.
What are your plans for the downed columns? Going to chop it up and re root?

It's got one really thick root that extends for several feet, but that seems the extent of the rooting system. The other stand of San Pedro directly behind it is now teetering on the brink. There's gonna be another 9/11 back here.
Lem, those are skeletons I found in the desert, not trichocereus.
I need to figure out if I want to replant the San Pedro or keep that spot open for more rare cactus. I'm probably gonna pull the other one down and celebrate my new real estate that I can fill in with more interesting specimens.

What rare species are you currently the most interested in owning?
It's too bad you don't sell any cacti. For a long time, I wanted to have a plant in my garden that I could be all like "this came from the garden of Joe Molloy." Now you've crushed my dreams.

Over the years I got all sorts of cuttings from the ebay allstars that belong in the ground. I'm gonna fuck that corner up and get rid of all the raggedy looking shit. Too much damn work, I'm feeling overwhelmed.

Joe, is it possible something was eating the root system? My trichs are much younger than those, and have much larger rootballs...except for the couple foot long taproot.

Nooneman, I just buy cool looking cuttings. Most bridgesii look the same, but the variety of characteristics within peruvianus is interesting. I look for different flesh tone, spine color, unique notching, etc.
Kosmo, the rootball is solid and firm, no rot or pests. It was just too top heavy.

Once upon a time...

Hey Joe Could you cut the cactus off and let callus for a few months and reroot?
All of mine have to over winter indoors and so are pot bound. Still have that big mutant...

Peace
