Some growers have had success spawning with 100% coir. As long as it is to field capacity and properly pasteurized, I don't see how it couldn't work. But in your case, you added some verm, which will definitely help the mycelium colonize a bit faster.

What does a little too much coir and vermiculite mean? As in you put to much with your spawn ratio or you put to much verm in it or?

I always aim for a 3:1 coir/verm ratio.

Can you be a little more specific? Do you mean that your ratio of coir to verm is off, or that you put too much coir and verm in comparison to your spawn, and that the spawn ratio is too low? It's a little difficult for me to understand what you are asking.

My mix was 50/50 coir vermiculite, it's probably an inch deep and looks like it's colonizing well I just wondered if it would eat the coir instead of just grow on it Being an inch ore a little deep I didn't want to smother the substrate

What about coir and coffee grounds? I have a little tub going of maybe 60/40 coir/grounds. The substrate has been sterilized and the spawn introduced under sterile conditions.

I tried to case with Coir...it colonized the entire casing...essentially just making it another layer of substrate.

I've had limited experience with coffee grouds, but my first tub ever was spawned with about a cup of spent coffee grounds to coir/verm, not sure if that was enough to make a difference in fruiting performance.

Coffee should be pasteurized. It is a mold magnet and should never be sterilized if spawned in open air. That is also a lot of coffee, high nitrogen suppliments should be limited to 10% total sub. I know some people have spawned to 100% coffee. They are the exception not the rule.
Edit: I didn't see that you managed to spawn in sterile conditions. It might do alright.

I tend to avoid casing with coir or verm for that reason. I always make my own casing mixes.

Thinking of trying jiffy mix for casing...or just flying without a casing next round.

I've heard good things about the jiffy mix. I might give it a try with one of my mono's. I believe that has to be pasteurized as well, not completely sure tho.

Yeah Psilosoulful...I thought pasteurization might be best. Thanks for the link taGyo... I'm definitely a fan of Frank

Awesome!! I'll be sure to follow this to a T, I was also using Frank's pasteurization tek today for the first time, it really is a great writeup. Can't wait to spawn my first full size mono tomorrow

so your subs an inch deep and your worried that was too much? i normally make my tubs 3.5" to 4" which is pretty much the standard did you follow a tek? either way 1" is not too deep if its in a mono keep an eye on your humidity and IMO definatley case it good luck
