hypothetically speaking if one were to have 10 cakes that have finished colonizing but have been sitting for about a month without being fruited, is that a good idea? as in can you fruit cakes that have finished colonizing over a month ago? will it just be contam city or what? thanks and happy holidays .

if the jars have been closed, I dont see how they could of been contaminated.

Getting the mycelium to fruit is a different story though. Just give it a try, cakes arent difficult.

Let us know how they turned out?

I had the same problem, except my cakes weren't sitting for a month. Is the mycelium still white or has it turned blue at all? Also, try dunk/rolling to initiate pinning.

Depends where you keep them, temps of where u keep them and whatever. Keep them in a relatively cool place and theyll keep for a while.
I'm always delaying my birthing and casing, and just keep them in a clean box in a dark place thats cool (below 70degrees aka room temp) and clean. This seems to work.
If you, say, keep them in placewhere theres a tiny bit of light poking thru every so often, is like 72-73 degrees constantly...the areas  kinda dusty, then you get a couple that end up contaminated......oh, :alert: and after a long time, like 3-4 months, and depending on the overall humidity and other factors...the cakes shrink cuz theyre low on water from the slow evaperation...but unless theyre contamed, i still use them and they end up ok. I do casing. Dunk them if u do cakes then dunk the, theyll be fine....

 :sun:This is just a rough outline of how I deal with my fully colonized jars all the time. Ive heard some other stories too, like putting them in a fridge or whatever...never tried it.

Good luck :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun:
