Aborts after first flush...do I have to pick them?
    #22010258 - 07/28/15 03:14 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Due to me tripping on my first flush fruits while dunking/draining my tub, I have a lot of aborts. Do I have to pick them?

It's only been 3 days since the dunk and there's 1 pin that is growing nicely into a mature fruit (I know it's early)..

Any damage leaving the aborts? I figure it happens in nature anyways

How do these two things correlate?

If they are truly aborts then pick them.
Healthy pins can survive a dunk

Do they have to correlate?..I was just taking the guess work out if people were curious as to WHY.

I guess my question is will my tub contaminate if I don't pick them before second flush?

It isn't going to contaminate because of the aborts, but why leave them? They are not going to get any bigger if they are aborts. they are active and just fine to throw in with your other ones.

I keep them separate as a novelty and have abort trips, but that's just me.

the reason I was asking how those statements in your OP correlated was because dunking didn't cause your pins to abort. I don't know if that's what you were implying though. so I asked.

Well it wasn't necessarily the way I dunked, but the way I drained them.  I took a couple metal hangers and bent them until straight, then proceeded to stick them through the bottom holes (at sub level) to hold the sub in place while I flipped my tub upside down to let it drain.

Bad mistake, the metal scraped and fucked up a lot of little pins.

Anyways I found this just now. Like all others say, I should have spent more time SEARCHING for the answer

Don't pick aborts until you pick the rest of the mature flush.  Disturbing the surface of the substrate around aborts will damage the growing pins.  Before anyone repeats the horrible mantra that aborts will rot and ruin the cake, they won't.

Good move getting a humidifier.  Anytime you need to run heat in your house, you should also run a humidifier."

I never said aborts will rot. Go with RR.

He's saying if you have aborts near other pins don't pick them, there's no harm in picking them early though.
