 casing... ready for pinning?

its been a while since ive last cultivated anything... someone remind me is this ready for pinning? or should i wait until there is more mycelium on my compost.

From what I've read, as soon as the first signs of mycelium are visible on the top layer, you're ready to initiate pinning. I currently have 2 casings that I am initiating pinning on right now, and there is less mycelium visible than on yours. If I were you I would begin pinning right away.

Looks great! Maybe patch a very thin layer on a few of the high spots and throw it in the fruiting chamber! You'll be picking shrooms in no time!

Compost huh...Well, my theory is that it should be fully colonized since it's actually your substrate. Didn't work out for me last time, as it started pinning before full colonization...It appears you may have run into the same thing, I put mine into the chamber and and hoping it doesn'r contam. After first flush, I will case.

this is what i was thinking. when i used to grow with a friend he would always let it totally colonize the substrate... then start pinning. and the things you see that look like pins are actually parts of the birdseed used.
and if im sitll up to date.. the best way to initiate pinning would be to expose it to very cold temps overnight for a night or two? or am i that out of date on teks hehe
and fruiting chamber?! its in its fruiting chamber!

Really? Those really do look like pins from far away....
If that's all substrate, wait 'till full colonization, case with an airy casing material and wait for the myc. to be evenly poking through throughout the surface (just poking through, NOT mats) and then stick it in the fridge O/N or just at a cold temp (NOT FREEZING) and then the next day fruit it at like 70-75 and fan/mist. If you get too much myc. in one place before the rest patch it with moist airy casing.
You could leave it uncased and just keep the humidity high around it with a humidifier (should be a very high humidity) and fruit it like that. It's up to you.

Here is what I do:
Sterile Verm on bottom of container--> 1/2"
Pasturized poo-straw mix
Thin layer straight poo--> 1/4" -1/2"
Cover with plastic wrap that has a few holes in it
Place the above in a dark area at room temp--> ~72 F
Wait for full colonization and then case with whatever casing mixture you prefer
Then place directly into fruiting chamber, fanning 3-5 times per day and misting once per day until I see pins going well.

yea, they do loook like pins from far away... and about the casing layer you guys are talking about. That is my casing layer ;p
I use birdseed... let the jars fully colonoize
and there is this little place where i live that sells Organic Mushroom Compost just for growing mushrooms.... so i get my rubbermaid throw a bottom layer of compost (after sterilization) crumple up all my birdseed... put it in the middle.. then throw an even thicker layer on the top.... let it sit until it colonoizes the compost.. then i usually fruit. but then again.. like i said, its been a while since ive done this... someone please correct me if im missing something.
