Has anyone ever done this before? ( agar plate ---> syringe )

So I had a good culture sitting on my shelf and I didn't want to pitch it and I had a better one in the fridge already so I did this:
I was doing some ms pf tek and had some extra un inoculated jars so I took a syringe full of clean water with no spores in it, flamed the needle on it, slurried up the agar plate a bit with the tip of the needle, squirted about 3-4 cc's in, stirred again and sucked up the water back into the syringe.
I used this to knock up 10 1/2 pints (1 cc each) and these colonized at a VERY much faster rate than the ms jars with 0 contams. (5/10 of the ms jars failed because I made the syringe. 5 are still colonizing)
A bigger gauge needle would make this easier probably, it was a bit tricky sucking the water back up. All the talk of blender jars ect turned me off of LI / LC but this was a quick and easy way, and I don't see why I won't be doing this with my grains / future jars unless people here tell me I am going to have a high rate of bacteria ect.
I'll update with pin pictures if they are anything special.

Yes someone has done this, and I believe there's a tek written about it, I forgot by who or what it was called. It was a few months ago when everybody was on a liquid inoculant kick. Still clever if you came up with it on your own.

They do, the explosion of threads about it has slowed immensely though.

Why don't you just elaborate on it like you were going to? Obviously I forgot where the original one was or what it was called. Make it your own.

Well, I can do that, I was more looking for an opinion if theres any reason this isn't an okay, safe (contaminant / storage wise) way of doing things. thanks.

Well if you're 100% sure your source plate is clean then yeah it's good to go. I mean, if you already know sterile tech then your only real limit is your imagination.

Wow, thanks for the link - that's really cool. Good to know I can store a good clone for years this way with minimal effort.

Right on, good to know I can get away with just shaking the plate and not using th needle tip itself to dislodge the myc.

it depends on the culture and agar recipe really. sometimes the power-wash works. sometimes you gotta pop the top off and do a scraping
but don't worry. the scraping is still really successful if you use a clean plate. you get a bit more of it too.
In that video, I expand it to about 500mL. I wouldn't go any higher than that for an LI expansion, in fact, I would probably recommend you go a bit lower. 250mL would be probably give better results, especially if you power-washed instead of scraped.
