Clone trays with oasis cubes and vermiculite
    #22007057 - 07/27/15 09:46 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Hey guys,

If your having trouble with getting good results from oasis cubes in a clone tray this might help you out.  Simply put 1/2 inch of medium grade vermiculite on the bottom of the tray.  Don't keep em too soaked don't let em get too dry either, just in the middle or a tad on the dry side.

I've done Oasis cubes with and without verm for about 3 years and I can safely say that using verm is superior.  Oasis cubes by themselves have to be frequently monitored for the appropriate moisture content, and when roots grow beyond the cube, they can easily dry out.

The verm acts as a moisture reservoir, enabling you to not water the tray as frequently.  And you can really soak the oasis cubes without worry because the excess moisture will drain off into the verm.  The roots love growing into the verm, I often get roots that are up to 12" long if I let them go longer than they should.

Oh one more thing  bury the oasis cube about 1/4" into the verm layer, don't let it sit on top and dont bury the cube completely, it just doesn't work as well.

I use 10-30-20 peters bloom to mist daily (starting from day 1), and I also use it to water the cubes.  This is what ED Rosenthal does, the high P encourages root growth according to him.

I use 24 hours of 2xt8 flo lights 6500k directly above the dome.

Good luck!

Disclaimer - I can't guarantee verm will work for you but I can say it's worked well for me for 2 years so...!
