Would verm work?
    #2200583 - 12/25/03 02:22 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I have been using perlite in the bottom of my fruiting chamber. Would vermiculite work too? Or is there a reason for using perlite.

Any reason why? They both retain water.

yeah they'd probably both work but perlite is better for this purpose, it is goign to be much easier to handle and exposes more water surface area. Perlite is cheap, go to home depot.

Vermiculite retains water and perlite doesn't.Perlite lets the water evaporate, vermiculite doesn't it holds on to it.

I have a lot of extra verm around and wanted to know if I could use in stead of the perlite.

Verm will contaminate after awhile. Also Verm acts like a sponge, perlite is pourous and releases humidity from whatever it absorbed, verm releases very little humidity.
