First Grow-PF Tek-Pinning in Jar-Top Still Uncolonized
    #22006693 - 07/27/15 08:19 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Hey guys,

The jar on the right has a couple of pins (one you can see), but the top is still uncolonized. The pins are very small still. The bottom of these jars have been colonized for about a week.

Would it be better to wait until the top is completely covered in mycelium before birthing? Or should I do it soon since I have pins?

Been lurking awhile. You guys are the best.

:whathesaid:If those are PF jars with a Vermiculite layer on top...and the rest of the jar has been colonized... And then consolidated for about a week...It's birthday time!!!
Don't forget to dunk and roll before you put them in your FC.
:goodluck:

Cakes are birthed and currently going for a swim! They were covered in vermiculite, so I scraped as much off as possible. Couldn't quite get it all, though. Hope that's cool.

That's fine... Don't beat up your cake more than you have to...any loose Vermiculite will come off in the dunk anyway... Be gentle when you roll them, leave any pins you see. If you are careful, they will survive your dunk and roll.
Good job so far!:billymaythumbup:

Just wondering, why not use wide mouth half pints?
