Also it requires more energy to recycle a can than it does to make it.
In the end you are just wasting valuable energy resources, the answer is sustainable materials that aren't designed to break for the sake of low manufacturing costs.
This. Penn and teller had a tv show called p&t bullshit, and they essentially convinced me recycling is a waste of time.
In order for recycling to work effectively you need something like 12-15 different color coded garbage cans to seperate all of it. I doubt the average neighborhood even has enough room for all the cans it would take.
And like he said the energy it takes cancels out any positive factors in recycling.

It wasn't true when it was first stated and that's not true now either. Why's everyone listening to Penn and Teller anyway? I guess I'm the only one who finds them annoying as shit. Like the big dude, whichever one that is, is fuckin whack. And his little homie, the silent one, like.. I never thought that someone who didn't speak could be such a clown.
"Recycled plastic bottles use 76 percent less energy and newsprint about 45 percent less, he found. Across the board, the key factor is the energy intensity of extracting virgin materials, which is an order of magnitude higher than that of recovering the same material through recycling. "Even if you doubled the emissions from collecting recyclables, it wouldn't come close," Morris says. Overall, he found, it takes 10.4 million Btu to manufacture products from a ton of recyclables, compared to 23.3 million Btu for virgin materials. And all of the collecting, hauling and processing of those recyclables adds just 0.9 million Btu."

I do not care about this issue one way or another at all. If you recycle, good for you, if you don't, good for you.
This is the equivalent to asking my opinion on different compositions of paint. Do not care.

You wouldn't care if someone came and painted your living room and bedroom with lead based paint? Just being a dick, it really is a stupid issue.

We're talking about recycling, not breaking and entering and vandalism and lead based paint.

Of course this is acceptable. This is just fun stuff when you're young and doing dumb shit like having open containers in the whip while you're driving around with friends drinking on the way to a party or whatever.

There was an autistic kid in high school who other asshole kids would antagonize by yelling "FUCK MOTHER NATURE", and they would stomp on the ground and throw bottles at the ground cause he was so overly obsessed about pollution.
I mean it's a good cause and all, he had good intentions but definitely took it to far whem he would attack teachers for bringing up pollution as a topic at all.

The sad thing is even if you recycle some of it may be getting dumped in 3rd world countries as donations.

Exporting hazardous waste from EU and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Member States to non-OECD countries is banned.
However, Unep says thousands of tonnes of e-waste are falsely declared as second-hand goods and exported from developed to developing countries, including waste batteries falsely described as plastic or mixed metal scrap, and cathode ray tubes and computer monitors misleadingly declared as metal scrap.
African and Asian countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, China, Pakistan, India, and Vietnam are turning into illegal e-waste hubs, bypassing the legitimate global waste and recycling market that is thought to be worth $410bn a year.
Unep warns the growing volumes of e-waste, municipal waste, food waste, discarded chemicals and counterfeit pesticides are all having significant environment and economic impacts.
Countries are also losing out on significant amounts of resources, such as rare earth metals, copper and gold, while the conditions in which the products are dumped can be extremely hazardous to health.
Unep wants counties to strengthen national legislation and enforcement of e-waste legislation as well as working to increase the recovery of valuable metals and other resources locked inside electronic products.
“We are facing the onset of an unprecedented tsunami of electronic waste rolling out over the world,” said Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of Unep.
“Through enhanced international cooperation and legislative coherence, stronger national regulations and enforcement, as well as greater awareness and robust prevention measures we can ensure that the illegal trade and dumping of e-waste is brought to an end. This will create a win-win situation, whereby rare and expensive elements are safely recycled and reused, boosting the formal economy, depriving criminals of income and reducing health risks to the public.”
