Bassnectar pretty much wants to be G Jone's mentor kinda, he sees a lot of himself in G Jones and theyre from the same area
G Jones is like as real as it gets imo
So true. Except, in my opinion, G Jones already blows bassnectar away as far as production goes. Like it's not even close. Maybe that's just coming through my eyes because I do production as well and I just like that he is pushing shit in a creative way or something but yeah... In my opinion, idk if Bassnectar needs to be his mentor or if he's just trying to get tight with him because he knows he is the fuckin future and wants to stay around for a lot longer. Who knows. G Jones is also doing that project with DJ Shadow which is pretty huge, Shadow is, obviously, a legend in the game.
yeah i dont really disagree with that
with bassnectar i think hes like a pretty good producer but a great DJ. his sets are monster and he always finds new ways to make old tracks fresh

Yah it's Carmack's lack of experience DJing. I used to do similar stuff when I was beginning to DJ. Ta-Ku is sorta the same way.
Evidence...
Check out Mr. Carmack's boiler room set - it is almost exactly like what you're describing - I was wondering if it was him or if the Boiler room vi was weird or something. That is pretty much my nightmare as a DJ, getting up there and fucking up when people are most hype.

Yeah Bassnectar is a stellar DJ and performer there's no question. I don't fully understand how intense everyone is about him, his style really isn't my favorite at all. Although, I gained a lot of respect for him after his set this year. I've seen him numerous times before but for whatever reason I really enjoyed that set.
That's dope, I knew him and yheti and bleep bloop are all homies. Would love to kick it with them, but I'd probably be annoying and start talking production shit with them.

Yeah I almost mentioned that Boiler Room set of Carmack's as well. I have the same controller he is using there. That thing can do amazing things so that's pretty bad. The money I'm sure he gets paid and his reputation, he should just lock himself in his house for a week and do nothing but learn the fuck out of it and practice literally like 12 hours each day. That's all it would really take to do what he's doing.
And yeah Zack, no disrespect toward bassnectar. He's a cool ass dude from what I know and really busted his ass to get to where he is. I have complete respect for him. I'm just saying he personally isn't near my favorite, production/style-wise.

Yeah that shit is fucking tight, no denying that!! See when I hear shit like that I kind of take back what I'm saying about his style. I just am not a fan of his like allegedly "epic" tracks where it's just like long ass notes with some wobble in them. Like the build up and then just this huge long note. That just does not do it for me. But yeah, I guess I'm not even as familiar with his stuff as I should be, or just need to be listening to his unreleased shit. That's similar to how Tipper, keeping tons of unreleased stuff just to drop at shows. Pretty cool to do that actually even though it pisses me off cause I want all that music.

bassnectar has tons of midtempo shit that sucks really bad imo, it never really changes pace, it just stay mid and theres a few wobbles, i hate that shit...he does produce some pretty good trap tho
haha thats why you go see tipper live too
he just announced 2 more shows and one is in my hometown in sept (boston) in a tiny ass venue with the same dude on visuals as he had at camp, its not a part of a tour either, so its kinda like 2 special events...grabbed tix already and ahhhhh its gonna be so dope...and its so close to home
all uptempo was cool but i hope he changes it up, which i bet he will
also heres a really good recording of that tipper set, great quality...

Shit, thanks for that! Android Jones is usually who does all of his visuals and stuff. Is that who was with him do you know? I was wondering, but I was too fucked up to look for any evidence of whether it was him or not, all I saw and heard was "amazing", that's about it.

well android jones seems to do all his west coast shows, hes done sonic bloom and infrasound
then johnathan singer does his east coast shows, and hes the guy who was with him at bisco, that dude will also be at the boston show
i honestly think android jones is way better based on videos ive seen but johnathan singer is still world class shit, he did visuals for gd50 too

Yeah I agree, I didn't realize Android Jones didn't do east coast stuff. The visuals were still dope but yeah that's why I was trying to figure out if it was Android Jones because it wasn't quite up to his standard in my opinion. I'm just a fan of his this though so nothing bad about this Johnathan Singer cat.

G Jones is from Northern California. He just graduated from UC Santa Cruz so I think he's from near there. Maybe he was at a festival in Canada though, who knows.
