I'm not sure the spores grow new mycelium that fast, i think the same mycelium body survives throughout the winter/summer and then fruits when the conditions are right the following autumn, liberty caps can even have truffles, although i wouldn't dare dig up a patch!
One thing to bare in mind with the first flushes is that they may seem stronger due to having a very low tolerance, especially if you've been waiting since the previous season, i do think the first flush can be the strongest though.

Libs definitely do vary in potency. I know one patch nearby which produces tiny thin libs which are a complete blast. 2 years ago I kept checking every 2 days and when the first shrooms sproutet, I ate 45 of them (I think) on the spot. 1.5 hour later I was tripping full blast. They were really small and I would compare their weight/volume to 10-20 regular national park grade libs.

Yes these insects do spoil the batch. I suggest to dry them as fast as possible. But if you dry in the oven keep temp on low, 40 degrees otherwise the mush get cooked and they don't store well, you will end-up with crap quality.

To the people who have found libs, what has the temperature been like in your area? I spent about 2 hours looking for them and couldn't find any

You'll just have to keep looking. I've been picking liberty caps wearing a t-shirt, but also wearing more or less winter clothing, hat, mittens, the whole lot. But persistence will pay off.

yes blue indicates oxidation of active chemicals and i see quite a bit there, plus you can tell just by the look

even the one at the bottom, the one with the stem cut off in the pic...and the one at the 11 o'clock position, oriented vertically with the short stem? (i've not much experience with these, just honing skillz and askin)

Yeah just a bit old them big ones, stipe characteristics on the bottom ones indicate semilanceata the top little one you mentioned has gave up, not enough moisture to reach full maturity, them ones are quite potent by weight

relic your best indicators imo is the wobbly spiral stems, blue bruising, cap shape + nipple.
if you got these and your picking in the right habitat you cant really go wrong.
but to double check any a good tip i would say is.. as they dry they will get lighter and dry from the center of the cap( they are hygrophanous) this coupled with a purple spore print and you are set!
thats why i would recommend picking the ones with the first indicators, even if you dont get the bluing take them still
take these home and as they have been handled the bluing will prob now show and also they will have dried somewhat allowing you to check the other identifier.
and finally if you really need more confirmation take a spore print
a few hunts and you will know them by sight alone

The fight I hunted in last year is starting to pop up with a few liberty caps,
when will they grow enough to have a experience?
thanks.

vary with conditions i find.
wetter conditions later in the season the mature faster it seems
maybe thats a reason early fruits are stronger as they have more time to accumulate the active in the fruits
i dont care how long a book will say the fruiting cycle takes each fruit to mature!
i know it varies alot.
i have picked shrooms 1 day and not had fruits back for a week and also has fruits ready to pick in the same spot a day or 2 later.
and i know they werent even there 2 days prior as i pick all of them.
so i would say imo as temps get cooler and it gets wetter they speed up how long it takes them to grow.
the time it takes to pins may take the same time however i dont know. but it seems they are alot quicker with more rain

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum so sorry for any school boy errors. I'm an avid picker and tripper of the sacred fungi, commonly known as the liberty cap, I'm a 100% sure on my pick locations and as to what I'm picking, however upon the first pick of the season this year, almost 3 days ago now, I stumbled upon a few dried mushrooms surrounding a small flurry of 200% identifiable liberty caps, I'm just wandering if anybody knew or had experience with identifying what I can only describe as "sunburned" mushrooms.... I couldn't even obtain a spore print. However these mushrooms tear like a lib, dry like libs only have gone darker to what I can only assume as sun damage, have the nipple, although I turned a few inside out to check for bugs and to get a better looks at the gills and how the stem tears from the cap, also next to all have a layer of "peelable" coating commonly associated with libs as I understand it. Any advice would be much appreciated as to identification. Thanks I'm not yet sure how to upload photos to a comment but they can be viewed on my 'profile' I believe?
