This is not an ID request thread so please make your own thread next time if you have some mushrooms you'd like identified.

I can see seven libs in there and the rest look like Panaeolus accuminatus.

This is the Liberty cap thread.. If they think they have found Liberty caps and want them checked why start an ID thread when this thread is for helping learners to find Liberty caps and have them ID'd.

That really doesn't make much sense.

Im not trying to be confrontational or anything but... C'mon.

If everyone posted ID requests in "Official" threads it would turn into a giant cluster-fuck. We have ID request templates for good reasons.

Completely understood, but may I ask why I was the first person you have pulled up about it on this thread? Because correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm not because I have followed this thread since it started this year)I am definitely not the first person to ask for an ID. Infact I prefer to ask within this thread because it seems a lot friendlier here than in the ID threads I have created. I would ask for information and not be given it. If you want people to use this forum correctly then don't treat n00bs like idiots.

Exactly!
When I started using the Shroomery I first used the official Liberty cap thread and everyone was more than inviting and I got loads of brilliant advice from people willing to teach, users like Joie, Dr. Delban and Anglerfish spring to mind. But if I created a thread somewhere else it seems to attract ignoramuses with a holier than thou, you don't deserve to learn attitude.

I can't imagine why..
I guess folks from around the British Isles are just cool people, trying to help each other find mushrooms and expand there knowledge in mycology by sharing the information that they learned.

It is information to be passed on, nobody owns that information.

Posts with Panaeolus species in my mind should be more than welcome because it makes the thread more informative to newbies.
But I know how annoying it can be when someone constantly posts mushrooms that are in no way similar to Liberty caps.

When I first saw Panaeolus posted on the official Liberty cap thread of 2013 I knew what not to pick when I went out.
I also learned several different names of several different species from other people fuck ups haha!

Once again I really don't want to sound at all confrontational but it just baffles me as I thought that was literally the point to this thread.

That's all well and good but here we have a thread of 69 pages with at least a month left of the season, for some of us it hasn't even started yet!

I'd guess if all the first time UK hunters were to create a new thread everytime they found a mushroom they thought was a lib the 'Mush Hunting and Id' thread would be inundated, and ID requests for other species would be continually buried.

I've always found people in these UK threads are willing to help the novices, and as long as people in this thread are happy to tolerate such posts, I see no reason for complaint.

Long may they roam. :mushroom2:

Hey guys. My gf took this picture of some mushrooms near her house back May. In Australia. She reckons they're liberty caps but I'm still skeptical. These are the only photos we have sorry

Do you mean elsewhere in the forum? Because outside of the Hunting & ID forum it's a different world. Very unusual for such a co-existence to occur.

Found my first liberty cap yesterday, at 78 metres in a sheep and cow field among the tufts of longer grass, then find his slightly bigger brother next to him:smile:, I'm so chuffed to know I'm at least looking in the right spots,  although did search the rest of that field and neighboring fields but no luck,

At least I've found a real one for myself, such beautiful creations hahaha

Psilocybin has an LD50 toxicity rate lol i just found out which means you have to consume your own body weight for it to become life threatening
which means there's a huge scope for transcendence hahaha  - who dares wins... i dont lol

Hey,

This is my second year mushroom picking in the North West of England and its going quite well so far, probably have about 150 dried out which I collected with my sis. Just wanted to throw out some tips for newbies.

You don't find mushrooms, the mushrooms find you. I went to my usual spot the other day and didn't expect to find much because it had been really cold in the morning and really sunny in the afternoon. I had a quick scan round and didn't find much so decided to go home. As I was walking back a single lib appeared. It was juicy so I figured there must be more about, I ended up finding about 80 mushrooms in total.

However If you're wandering around all day looking down and not finding much they probably aren't about. Come back again after there's been some moisture or find a different spot. In the fields where I live, there's sometimes loads on one field and none on the one next to it so bear this in mind.

If you find a liberty cap, look around in the surrounding area (1 meter surrounding you), there's usually more hidden abut that you just haven't adjusted your eyes to yet.

If you're looking on a hill, go to the lower part of the hill where the ground will be most and damp and look for dips in the ground where the water may have collected like a puddle. This is where you will find the most mushrooms. I seem to find more near the edges as well for some reason.

Be careful of farmers, we were caught a couple of weeks ago so couldn't go back for a few weeks in fear of getting caught again. Always listen out for tractors and quads.

I don't live in a rural area by the way, just found a good spot. Once you find it you should be lucky enough to find em there every year. I'd keep the spot quiet if I were you. I actually found my first ones in August this year and some more last week.

Happy hunting,

Rebuka

Pretty much all the species of mushroom I've wanted to find has happened when I'm not looking lol. Earlier this season i went out looking for some B. edulis in a place where i know they grow. Spent a fair amount of time looking but there was nothing. As i start walking to go back home (no longer looking at this point) i see one right in front of me. This happens a lot!

Long-time lurker hoping someone can take a quick look at the fruits of my first forage.

About 200m up, bottom of a north facing, sloped field with a few sheep knocking about.

Only using a phone camera so hard to get really close-up detail. Most of them seem to fit the bill for Libs but I was less sure about the ones on the right hand end. Am I close?

Slightly closer for an idea of shape:

Awful quality underneath:

Thanks in advance. Loving all the pictures of more impressive hauls haha
