So how do you guys go about scouting for new fields and locations apart from just driving around randomly? Obviously just going to the peak district or wales is a no brainer. I've done that and had some finds.

However, I'm trying to figure out how to go about finding other locations more locally. I've been pouring over google maps but it's not always that easy. A lot of land that looks green is really just covered in bracken. Also, it doesn't show which is has public footpaths for easy access, or meets the correct habitat requirements.

OS walking maps, or something else?

OS maps can be good, ultimately i find its best to just get as far from the city as possible, finding a decent spot close to a big city, with such few grazing fields is really tricky, for local spots you're best off just checking locals parks, footy pitches, cricket pitches etc...

With satellite maps i just look for the sheep and then look for paths

This is great

I still prefer just going to Wales or the Peaks as you're pretty much guaranteed to find something if the weathers been right and you put the miles in.

I would say you need a lot of luck if you live in a highly populated, urbanised area where every bit of land is privately owned.

I used to circle around the area and find many potential spots. There are some spots where I found libs but never returned to these locations for various reasons.

This is actually the site i had in mind when i posted my own link! I couldn't remember anything about it to look for it though lol. This is much better.

Edit: actually i just realised it doesn't show footpaths. So i guess i was thinking of both sites.

I've posted some photos of recent hunts, it's my first and I think I've been quite successful. So, I'm all stocked up. The mushrooms are in different stages of the drying process and all is looking good. My first ever trip is going to be this Friday. It will be spent indoors around good company, but any tips on what to avoid or anything I can do to enhance would be great! (I don't smoke)

Watch some light comedy whilst your coming up. When you get too distracted or can't be bothered to concentrate, get your playlist on your phone/music device, put on a decent pair of headphones and crank the volume. Sit back and relax, retreat into your own blissful world with your music to guide you. If you've got a sunny garden on conservatory sit in there.

Also, when your at the peak engage in some thought provoking convo's with people you can trust. Tell them about the world and existence.

Thank's for the reply S. I'll be with some pretty abstract minded people including myself,  they are definitely trustworthy and the settings will be comfortable, conversation should get interesting! As for music, I had planned on having a music chanel on low volume with no other light sources other than the TV. (It will be late/dark) and visual wise, some of today's music videos are pretty funky...

Had this before, and it wasn't just a one off I see.

So the lil buggers are happily writhing and wiggling amongst my drying stash. What do you guys do about the critters. I'm grossed out by this sort of stuff. I'm also a vegetarian. LOL.

So I don't fancy eating em. How you separate the dried up dead ones from the rest of the stash is a mystery.

Hahaha yessss I see him. It's actually funny you should say that. I had seen some that where half eaten, I decided to leave them, but I also wondered if the reason they were only half eaten was because whatever little critter was feeding started to trip? Did you notice any that looked like they had been eaten before picking? I spoke to a guy who had mentioned this to me, it happened him after storing inside his hot press. Maybe it's down to the mushroom being stored in an area too humid?? I'm the wrong guy to ask. But I hope someone sheds some light on this. It's a pitty you're a vegetarian, if it came to it I'd be eating dried mushroom & maggot soup lol

I'm not biologist, but I have grown shrooms and I reckon these are fungus gnat larvae, which are a REAL FUCKING BITCH. They cause whole trays to abort. The fuckers are houdini's that can find their way to your grows through the eye of a needle. Then they lay their shitty eggs in the mycelium/fruiting bodies and, eventually they hatch....Much hate.

Thats why I always dry mine and never eat freshies anymore. If I had the space I'd have laid all mine out like you, then I could spot and sweep them maggots out :frown:

I give you the choice of 2 pills.

With each containing one of the following:
Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk?
Didn't think so.

This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

Cultivation, is not something I have even considered yet. I mean I've briefly read up on growing cubes... and as a beginner (at picking) it does seem pretty complicated. But as for your wriggly little friends, well, I always look at it like this. Bear grylls has eaten a lot worse... think of the protein?

Yeah but soap bar is like 0.005% THC.... At least the stuff I used to get as a teenager.

Good luck to everyone hunting this year, I'm going to the local national park over the weekend as I've not had any luck with local locations since they built a cabbage factory on my spot.

Found a few good spots, yielding approx 27g dried.

Waiting on rain in north Yorkshire, been sunny all week with just a bit of moisture in the morning. Is good rainfall essential? As we haven't had that much yet got some decent results

Checked the forecast and it sunny all next week.

Also how does altitude affect the season? I understand that at higher altitude they fruit earlier but does the season end earlier than lower down?

As you can tell its my first time with any of this

Waiting on my B+ to start pinning aswell

It's very possible that you will have missed some, or a lot. The sun will have dried the caps and they will be easier to see now too.
