When you find a patch then 'harvest' it, is it ok just to yank them out of the ground, or should you cut them with scissors to not damage the mycilium or what? Also, is there a technique to searching a field for a patch? At the moment I just walk in random directions lol.

Thanks mate, you've pretty much confirmed what I know about libs for me I will take care to read up on the mushies you mention, and of course I'll limit myself to licking shrooms that I'm not 100% sure about. The taste of the mushie I tried was like you say, earthy-bitter, definitely not unpleasant.
I'm feeling much more confident about this whole exercise now that somebody has confirmed my understanding of lib habitat and favourable weather conditions
I'll be sure to post pics of anything I find after there's been some rain I'm half tempted to stand outside with a spliff doing a rain-dance, manchester is normally rainy enough without encouragement...
Also, has anybody ever cooked with libs? Is that a good idea? I was thinking they might go down really well in a spaghetti aha :')
Thanks again! Much LOVE! <3

Safe, good to hear your ears absorb this real shit.
Overboard?? haha shiiet man. I only ask because im trying to get a feel for how much is too much tripping myself. After the other nights experience im instantly eagure to start doing more but i dont want to take the piss with the holy medicine. I must of had 5 or 6 reaaal low doses this year, never took them before until recently.
And yeah found that 2g dose a real nice ego boost but in a non self righteous way, more of a self loving way.
Really beautiful turn around it sounds like you had man I was highly depressed at the beginning of the year too, my doctor tried to get me on the anti depressants but i ended up turning them down even though the doctor was trying to pursued me to take them -_- I knew from some of my mates experience that they dull down your being. I decided i would go down the change of diet and exercise route, with the intention to find some mushrooms to add to the mix. Fuck all this medication they try give us, they never ask you about what food your getting down you, or whether you do much exercise or if you get any sun.
I know what you mean about them needing to be regulated too, i dont suppose your family have ever taken them? id love for mine too. I think if the trip went well it would help my mums ways an awful lot.
And yeah, the government dont want healthy minds, no money to be made off that.

Everything i write on both the forums and private messages are just the ramblings of a troubled mind, and are purely fictitious.

hknuddv said: Hey guys and gals, I'm a new mushie hunter from the Manchester area I went out hunting a tiny bit last year and found nothing, but I think that was because I wasn't looking in the right places...
This year I thought about it much more and found some fields that I hold out hope for. Am I too late for libs this year? My impression is that they should continue to flush as long as it doesn't freeze?
My main hope for finding libs this year is a field grazed by a small flock of sheep (15 or so) and two cows. There is a lot of sheep poo around, with a mix of short and long grass. The field is accessible via a public pathway with gates, but is surrounded by trees and is quite well hidden. Its altitude is 100m so not perfect but it should be a good spot right? Will the lower altitude mean I have to wait a little longer?
I went out inspecting the field last week (very briefly) and found nothing, since then we had a little bit of rain so I returned to search for an hour or so and only found two potential libs The ground was mostly pretty dry from the sunny weather recently, except for where I found the potential libs, growing from a clump of grass near where some water was pooling.
My suspicion is that I'll get a good haul if I return when the field will be soaking from a few days of rain? Does that sound right?
I can't post a pic of my potential libs because I don't have a working camera right now, but they made a purple tinted black-brown spore print. They have a slimy cream-white stem that was more brown at the base, they have a roundish top with a little nipple. They are either libs or pans for sure, I've spent ages lurking on here and I haven't seen any other species that match that description to grow in such a habitat (in my area).
I know this is irresponible but I had a *tiny* nibble of the very edge of one of my potential libs after washing under tap water and it tasted/smelled edible (not sure that counts for anything). I only tried nibbling it because I'm 99.9% sure I'm not going to get poisoned from a mushroom of that description because nothing deadly looks like that in my area.
Any advice guys? Please correct any factual errors I have made, I'm trying my utmost to get the knowlege I need, after all I hope to hunt for these things for many years to come
Never "nibble" on unidentified mushrooms.
No it is not too late for liberty caps. I dare to say it is still early. October is the peak season for them.
What can I say? Just go to the national park that you have near your city. This is where my advice for you ends.

lolwutbitch said: Ugh. I went out today and searched all types of fields, some with sheep/horses and some without. Didn't find a single mushroom. Not even an inactive one. However, there was this one fields with tons of Marasmius Oreades in a half fairy ring, but thats it. Pics What am I doing wrong? Is it the time of year? Am I looking in the wrong types of fields? Is the temperture/weather not good enough yet? I live in the West Midlands, UK. Place where I found the fairy ring, is this a good place for libs? Horses graze here.
Yo this field looks OK for libs. I think this could be a late fruiting field since it has short grass. It is still early in the season so be patient. I would keep checking this field once a week till the end of November. If nothing pops out then leave it.
I am curious about the wavy ridges in this pasture. What are they? They seem man-made. Which would lead me to a conclusion, that there will be no libs. Libs prefer to grow on land which remained in its natural shape for long time. I could be wrong tough.

Ok I get the message, I won't do it again! I know that the place you speak of is basically a lib paradise but I just don't have the time or money to get there on public transport :/
If my little field turns up nothing I know at least one place I can go and find them for certain, I'm just putting it off until I have to because money and time are limited and I don't have a car :'/
Thanks for the advice nonetheless, much love <3

You're welcome. I hope that you collect some funds and experience the mushroom madness at it's peak. I will never forget the first time I went there 2 years ago. There was so much shroomage that 2 of us couldn't pick everything. We kept finding them even at night under the stars. It was ridiculous, libs everywhere. There were families with children having their lovely Sunday hikes along the trails which were lined with clusters of creamy Libs.
Great fucking memories...

Sharing spots is strictly prohibited.

If you look for the sheep/cow/horse fields in that part of the country you will find them. Get familiar with (google) a sedge grass called 'Juncus effusus', it's a grass that likes moisture and is pretty good indicator that the field you're in is wet enough. That grass will quite often stand taller than the surrounding vegetation. The mushrooms are all around you in the North east.

I feel for you. Libs are mysterious little buggers too. I know exactly what to look for, and the ideal conditions yet I still spend hours trawling fields that do not produce at all despite optimum conditions. Meanwhile, I come online here, and see all this shroom porn and bragging about x finding 1000000's on his/her worst field which only get my d*** hard and leaves me frustrated.
Goodluck and even if you find nothing at least having the excuse to get outdoors is always awesome.

From my experience, sedge grass indicates that the field is too wet.
