No libs but I find these mushrooms growing near libs so probably you went to the right spot. Try looking closer at the grass, libs when wet are very easily overlooked.
Ok, I'm seriously confused. This isn't a lib? http://imgur.com/a/fDv7m
Do you know what it is?
It looks similar but it is not a lib. I don't know what it is but there a people here who do so you might get an answer soon.

Now I see they clearly aren't, the difference is mainly in the shape, and I think they're also a bit smaller
EDIT: actually they look very much like strictipes. Anybody knows how potent they are comlaratively to libs?

Those are all inactive Panaeolus species (possibly a mix of Pan. acuminatus and foenisecii), not Psilocybe semilanceata or strictipes. It is the colour and shape, not size.
Compare to the pictures here.
Read the description for semilanceata and look for those characteristics. When the cap is moist, test for a seperable gelatinous pellicle. They are a very distinctive species and are easy to identify once you have familiarised yourself with their appearance and description.

Hey guys, I've gone hunting a couple of times in the Cheddar Gorge recently. Could you have a look at these and see if they're libs?

3 and 6 top row, 3 bottom row on first pic look like libs but need closeups. Don't see any in second pic.

i've been mooching about norfolk for a few seasons on the hunt and have so far found fek all. thought i came across a few on a golf course this year but apparently very, very close lookalikes - almost like this particular psilocybe mexicana (if that's indeed what that is?). some had nipples, some didn't.

you in the north of east anglia per chance?

I've been finding a handful each time 3-4 times over the past 10 days. Both in a new and regular spot.
It hasn't ended yet, there are more flushes to come, especially now after the recent rains. I believe that the temps are quite high and unstable. Sometimes it gets very cold for a few days, then it becomes very warm again and so on.
It's been a bad season for me too. I wasn't planning to stock up on shrooms or pick massive amounts but when I went to my mad mushrooms location in Peak District I didn't even find enough for a decent trip! Day 1 97 libs day 2 only 1 lib

There's been lots of rain but I can't find that much in my fields. I can't seem to find anyone on the forum that lives in Durham or any other better fields.

Went on my first picking trip today! Loved it. Quick question, got my libs drying, some of them i found, while im certain are libs from shape, size, nipple etc some were very dark, almost black. Is there a problem with these mushies?
And should they be washed before using?
Cheers!

Don't eat the black ones. If you look closer you will see that these are old, rotting shrooms. They will make you sick.
Would you eat a rotting carrot? No.

You can just chuck em in a tea you don't have to eat em , the fresher they are the darker they are so you may be confused with that? If the cap is actually rotted throw away the cap but keep the stock it still has goodness in it

Hey all, looking for help with an ID. Picked these yesterday on the edge of the Peak District on a path at the bottom of a fairly steep slope that had livestock on it at some point as there were still droppings. Most were found nestled between fairly long pieces of grass and the terrain was very wet and waterlogged in some places

-------------------- I give you the choice of 2 pills.
With each containing one of the following: Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk? Didn't think so. This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

I refuse to believe the season has ended ! - mine were in a bad way also there was no new growth to be seen really .... I was picking libs that had been there a few days - they were dry smal and shrived...
I was picking more in a freezing December than I have in the past week 2 weeks.. thank fuck I went out of my way at the beginning of the season ! I want more though - just in case the stash I have don't last ...
its coming to end for sure but - they should still be growing right up and until several frosts hit them.... but new growth has halted completely which is seriously odd - and I have a feeling its to do with this weather front that hasn't budged for nearly 2 weeks now.... I find it ironic that since then not much in the way of new growth has happened ! next week and the week after will probably be the last haul to have when temps normalize - we shall see!
wish I knew what effect them...

Well, apart from moisture and temps nobody really knows. There are some mysterious factors still to be discovered.
