I am curious to know, when does far SW peak? Later than rest of UK or earlier?
This year I have gone to Cornwall and Devon 3 times. I've been observing the weather there on my phone's weather app most of the year. It seems like temperatures there are lower all the time. They get plenty of rain too. This leads to a conclusion that SW should fruit earlier.
Anyone from SE?

I think we all peak late september to mid october that's when the thread has the most widespread finds anyways

Weather is ideal here in Wales right now, last night we had quite a bit of rain and today has been foggy with temps dropping a little. Went up to my hill this afternoon and quite a few bunches of caps seem to have sprung up. This is the first time this year that I've seen so many with that familiar greeny/brown colour and they were nice and firm, springy too, unlike most of those I've picked up to now.
Unfortunately had a farmer lurking up there so I didn't spend as long as I would have liked to. Had a reccy of the many smaller heads coming up for maturity. The fruits are definitely in greater numbers so signs are looking positive.

Got to get these bad boys dry nice n'quick as I'm off on hols tomorrow
Happy Hunting!

Dartmoor seems like the obvious place to go if you live around there. I'm guessing that's somewhere you go?

No not been to Dartmoor yet. I haven't picked in SW of UK yet. I've been heading north and to Wales over the past 2 years. I've gone to Devon, Cornwall and Dorset this year camping etc and have seen some potential lib spots in beautiful places where I would like to pick'n'trip.

Well Dartmoor contains the same habitat as in the Peak and Wales. Lots of moorland and hills.

blazeyy any chance you have a microscope?
i read that p.strictipes has smaller spores than libs and because of this some mycologist just consider them/call them Psilocybe semilanceata var. microspora.
would love to know if the spores are different.
and well done on the haul
nice pics too

ok no worrys
im hoping for a few samples of p.strictipes this year to have a good look at lol
would like to have ago at cultivating, heard gossip over the years that strictipes are a possible candidate for producing sclerotia. cant remember why exactly might have been something about when or how they fruit, and 1 theory was as they had nutrient resource in the sclerotia this somehow influenced fruiting potential even in bad seasons and fields that used to house hundred and hundreds of libs over the years reduced to the odd strictipes only and they seem to stick around.
and the gossip was they have small sclerotia that ensures there longevity even under less than idea conditions and even when the libs have vacated they still pop up.
would love to investigate this further. so i think will try some spores out just to see if they do make any signs of sclerotia.
