Drying Out During Sterilization?

I was wondering if it is possible for the water moisture content in a BRF cake mix can dry up during sterilization? I used a pot for sterilization as I was short one pressure cooker. Did it for approx 90-100 minutes at a rolling boil. The jars were raised out of the water.
I am just curious because it looks like my substrate jars are quite dry? Are they suppose to look dry? I am on day 5 (I inoculated Thursday night)Kept at approx 70 degrees room temp.

As long as you used the correct ratio you should be fine.

I did 2 cups verm, 1 cup brown rice flower and 250ml water. Added water and verm first then added brf.

Op, did the cakes shrink? If they shrunk, that would be an indication of moisture loss.

Weigh your jars and write it in permanent marker. Most of the time you will not need the information but its very simple to do and lets you monitor any moisture loss. There usually is some moisture loss.
BRF cakes will usually appear a little drier as the rice absorbs moisture.

Spore solution should add enough water to get it started you should be fine. Try liquid cultures and just shoot in a shitload of mycelium and water you should never have a problem.

The only way I could see it drying out is if the pot/PC ran dry while you were sterilizing.

The pot always had ample water in it and it doesn't appear to have shrunk at least not that I am aware of. I believe today I am beginning to see a little bit of mycelium growth! Woot woot!
