Equadorians - think they're nearly ready?

Hi,
This is my first crack at these and would just like a little advice please.
Attached is a photo of some Equadorians that a mate of mine is growing. I've read that you know they're ready when the caps split. So, I reckon they have a few days to go. Is that correct?
Some are growing a lot faster than others. Once the big ones split, should he just pick those and leave the little ones to grow for a little longer? If not, are the little ones still OK to eat?
Not sure if photo is attached.... Hope this helps?

Ah, got it. Sorry. New to this
Many thanks!
J

If the cap splits its definitely time to pick. By that time there's gonna be spores everywhere making a big mess. It's all in personal preference really. The best time is right as the veil is coming off the cap and the cap I about to open. I pick mine before the veil breaks lots of people wait until spores start to fall but i only do that for prints.
-------------------- Alright then, picture this if you will: 10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes, in my "need to know" post, just outside of Area 51. Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thing with just a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this. Cutting right angle donuts on a dime and stopping right at my Birkenstocks, and me yelping... Holy fucking shit!

I think you need some serious FAE in there.
They're not ready. I pick as soon as the veil tares (Or when I only have to open my tub once )

*edit taGyo beat me too it while I typed this long winded response. He is right.
you could wait another 24-36 hours and you do not have to pick them all at once. If you are concerned about spores on the substrate, then cut the cap off or pick the fastest developing specimens without disturbing the rest of the cluster. If it were a mono tub then this is not as necessary, but because you are using a grow kit and presumably do not have more buns in the oven. You are going to want to get as much weight off this thing as you can.
Additionally, give those things some air. Were you just opening the top and fanning? I cannot see any holes or slits in the bag. If that is the case then make some vertical slits or poke holes in a few places to let those things breathe. Others may say to stuff holes with polyfill in a similar configuration to a mini monotub. either way just give them some air

Taygo / Steve,
Cheers, lads. Much appreciated for the good advice.
Yes, it's a grow kit but it's meant to produce 4 to 5 cycles. Once you pick, you then flush in water for 24 hours and repeat. So, not sure if I just pick the little ones and discard? Or, eat them because they're worthy
He wasn't aware of the need for air holes or burping. I've had a look at the videos and there was no mentioned. However, I have passed that onto him.
Many thanks, guys! Much appreciated.
Cheers, J

Yes, submerge it in water for 18-24 after you harvest each flush. It isn't going to make it 5 most likely. Probably more like 3. Not sure what you mean by "pick them and discard", but there is nothing wrong at all with eating them fresh. I recommend drying any you want to keep long term in a food dehydrator. If you don't have one or the resources to acquire one, then use a fan and finish with a desiccant.

Do not go by those videos. Although companies that sell growkits do not want disappointed customers, I can assure you that the advice the skilled cultivators around this website will give you is far superior. FreshAirExchange is extremely important. Even more so than high humidity.

Taygo / Steve,
Right: first off, these are mine lol.
Thanks again guys. Much appreciated.
Steve, you're very right. I'd much more trust the likes of this website filled with experts
Fair enough. I'll be happy with three crops but let me see how much each one weighs up to. Love these, don't get me wrong, but not to the point where I have to take them daily lol.
Steve: What do you mean by "long term", mate? Thought they went rotten after a certain period; once dried? Could I keep them for a month if dried say, stored in a cupboard?
Cheers all.

fresh in a paper bag refrigerated you are looking at 10-14 days max. you can keep them for over a year if properly stored after drying. the important thing is that they are cracker dry when you put them into storage. by cracker dry I mean the stem of the largest densest fruit body should snap in half when you try and bend it. as dry as a cracker.

Nope,
Wait until the caps are opening for maximum potency. Right now you'll probably get something but don't spoil your tolerance.
It'll be worth the wait
