So technically what is the maximum time that a lophophora cutting/button will remain viable/alive with out being repotted?

Easily months, potentially years if not sitting in full sun baking away without roots.
I left a bunch of degrafts on a windowsill, no soil, for 6 months, then eventually potted them up into a rock mix. Some flowered and fruited in that time, a few pushed some roots. I leave them out to get rained on and all are plumping up well.

Im currently reviving a shriveled button that sat for at least 18 months in warm dry shade inside. Its throwing a tiny root, but I dont know how long it will take to revive. The root itself grows rediculously slow.
