I know your hunting grounds well NBYK hope to see you out there next year. Ive walked in from the top car park at the three way intersection a few times. Back in the day I stomped in all the time to fish. Mostly carp in there now If you get a chance the walk in from the creek at the bottom of the gully in the NW cnr is worth a stomp. Cool to know someone else is all up in my hood.

4 Sure mate! Was thinking of coming in that way, usually come in through that 3 way intersection car park you mention, I been working my way north / north east from there. Couple of spots I found that should be booming next year or two. Looks nice and green now!
I'm interested in the fishing, what else was in there? Is it legal to fish there? I'm always been scouted by a helicopter when I get down there lol. Saw a couple of deer today, they were too quick for a photo! I'll keep respecting your hood mate no worries Yell out if you see me stomping around out there we'll have a cup of tea.

Last year that place was chonged with subs, I didn't pick any because I already had a good amount from a spot I accidentally found working down south.
Don't worry about the helicopter flying around, or the light plane. Both are just local guys that do joy flights. That's why they seem to come back over you constantly. They pick people up and do like a 20min flight then take them back. The plane guy gets paid to spot for weed grows in summer but he's not lookin for anything else, so just ignore him.
The fishing can be good, there used to heaps of redfin but not so much now. You can still get them but you have to be patient and prepared to loose a lot of $ worth of lures. Your not allowed to fish there (same as most places) but its never stopped me. I've been caught a couple time they just say "You know your not allowed to fish here right" Then I play dumb and off I go. I always carry a fishing rod in my back pack as an excuse if anyone asks what im doing. even if im nowhere near water.
This pic was from my trek last weekend at the furthest east point of the catchment on the otherside of the highway. The photo doesn't do those hills justice my legs were wrecked after a full day hike.

Hope I catch you out there, Cup of tea sounds cool.
I'll pack the cones if you partake.

Great pics! Really nice specimens you have there.
Can anyone confirm whether or not subaeruginosa are still fruiting in northern hills forests/parks?
Cheers.

Great info brk I may partake interesting there were loads, been a challenge to find them which has suited me fine re-honing my skills.
Cheers for the info on the air support! Always wondered about that plane! Maybe I can find the grows before him this summer. How about "I'm just taking my pet fish for a swim!" (only problem you gotta let em go then).
btw pitzman I am still finding them out north but they seem to be hiding better now.

Went for a hunt yesterday, few not so explored areas and found a heap! further we walked more we found and we only really scratched the surface. here are a few. sorry bout the crappy pics.

Twas a good day to be out there, till the rain halted the advance. Seemingly still a lot of life still left in the season, although a few of the super patches have certainly stopped or slowed. Time to chase the micro-climates.

just a couple of left overs...

And here are the shots I was talking about re brown subs NYK. IMO A perfect example of a flush at varying maturity (And one of my favourite finds) and boy were these ones strong.

I visited two spots yesterday with mixed results.

As a total newbie I am only familiar with only a few phenotypes, If I am unsure I usually just leave em alone (I must have left more subs in the forest than I have collected!)

I found this 'orange sub look a like' growing very close to the other subs and took it home to do a spore print.

the spore print looked similar to the subs but was a tad lighter. The mushroom didn't stain.

After chatting to a cool old guy and comparing knives, my partner and I changed locations in search of pine mushrooms.

I have been told that subs are found in this area but have never seen them.
There were loads of pine mushrooms around but many were water logged
I came across a couple of mushrooms which looked 'subby' to me but didn't collect.

This looked similar to a couple of the subs I picked earlier but I wasn't 100% sure- I understand that subs don't grow from deadwood, is this true?

This is the first season I have been out looking and the first time in 10 years I have picked those dried stems out of my teeth
Such a great feeling to be outside enjoying nature, I hope that people are respectful of the environment so we can continue to enjoy.
Happy hunting.

legend. Keep looking you deserve to find loads. I'm no expert on your pics maybe make an id thread? I don't know what the mushroom is in that last pic of the log but that is a really cool picture!
Pineninja great stuff so you're saying the older ones are stronger? That 'progressive age' photo is unreal, just what I was looking for. Mine printed ok so they were knarley subs cheers .
Good hunting.

I went for an epic walk in a couple of pine forests on Saturday, wind was blowing quite strongly and pollen from the trees was everywhere. Did a lot of walking for not very much, only managed to locate one semi decent patch and the rest were sporadic loners. Most were covered in pollen which gave them a totally different colour. Some I found in the middle of the forest where almost completely blue as well.
Nice waterfall

Had a nap under a tree for a bit with the roos and this view on the outskirts of the forest

Haha, bit of a giveaway! (Not that I've actually been there myself, but seen enough pictures of that place) Aren't you one of the blokes from mid-north? Or am I confused?

Hey Folks, long time reader first time poster. Love the sharing of info.
I get out walking and looking every chance I get but my spots that I've found earlier in the season seem done. Today I went to one of my best patches and only found 5 and they were already half dried. Same story last Thursday.
On the weekend I tried Northern pines for a change as I normally go out from Stirling but nothing.
Might try deeper down south this weekend. Fingers crossed

I've been finding the same the last few weeks in my regular spots around where you are. Even after the rain, hardly any new growth, and a general lack of fungi. Which is why I chose to head elsewhere for my last hunt.
I'm guessing the season is drawing to a close?

Inevitable but true, the season is winding down, but if its still wet and its still cold there will still be shrooms. Found a heap last weekend, plenty of old mankies but just as many pins. Give up on the open areas, Look for grevillea or other mid ground cover cos the micro-climates hold the gold. Yes South.

I'm going to go out this weekend, probably my last run for the season since I also have been seeing a lack of fungi just around the place with old subs scattered around, but still I also am still getting pins popping around so there is still some game to be picked. Ether way was a nice season & I hope they all reward me the same as this one many years to come.
Stay trippy erryone

Side note I am really keen to see if my burnt spot from last season will return just as potent & fruitful! I went there maybe a month ago just to see if any magic has happened since the new spots I found were booming at the time. But nothing, although the area did look much better then what it did when I first checked it after the fires died down early on in the year. Fingers crossed for 2016!

Nice shots EB, pity you don't partake, Those greenish tinged phenotype(pic 5) are visual specials. I reckon a few of those, and a splash from the slimy stream and it'd be real interesting day.

Cheers mate. Interesting about the phenotypes and different trips. I have tried shrooms in the past but probably too high a dose. I still love hunting for them just for the fun of it. Maybe some ultra low doses next season for a mild buzz may be applicable
