TravelAgency said: This is a little off topic but I wanted your opinion on microclimates Pasty. I've been experimenting with them outdoors- I have observed that a live leaf covering the substrate will induce pinning there, I've also noticed that if I leave the leaf there it appears to need more FAE. Should microclimates be introduced solely to induce pinning and then removed?
If your getting at discussing pseudo casings like wax paper or bubble wrap, my stance is I'm not a fan. Proper casing layers do more IMO than just provide microclimate. I did wax paper for a bunch of tubs and hated having to change it out, and it never performed as well as I liked. That is just me.
In nature the microclimate is so crucial, its yet another aspect of the niche these things must have and occupy to thrive.

Point taken I think I'll find something else to tinker with and just let them grow. You have been tons of help. Sorry for getting defensive on you. And nighty night.

Thank you sir! I appreciate the insight, always. I like toying around with things sometimes, just to see the evidence of the change. So, you pretty much always case, right? Peat and verm is what I have seen. I think I'm going to let this mono fruit without a casing, and the next batch that is about a week out from spawning case it.
As another aside- my PastyPlate oyster clones are starting to grow! Thank you for all your hard work and you continued contribution to the community.

Glad to be of service. Also FYI I usually only case with peat for PE and exotics. Cubes for me usually are cased with plain ol coir and sometimes coir verm. Its contam resistant and always on hand.
