 Sponge grow?

Lately i've been wondering what would happen if one inoculated a sponge that rests in a solution of honeywater. Would the sponge fruit when fuly colonised and put in the right enviroment?
I was planning on suplementary shots of honey water to keep the sponge saturated. Also it will remain in a clean box al the time!
Any ideas would be welcome.

You need to use more than just honeywater for it to fruit well.
If you are sterile I guess you could colonize the sponge a bit, but it would probably be a waste of time....

You're thinking in the right direction with have a pourous material for your mycelial growth. But...there are much more conventional methods for more reasons that I wish to list.
If your heart desires to find out, do it. Ill let you know now, that the honeywater might be able to support a limited amount of mycelial growth but definately not mature fruitbody formation.

The only thing iv heard thats good for sponges is that u can replace vermiculite with it

I wouldn't be surprised if cotton balls soaked in a malt solution could grow some potent azurescens mycelia for extraction.

Cotton is a decent substrate. Hemp is better. Compost and manure are better than either one, from my experimements.

I'm not extracting anything from manure. 
I'm talking about growing Psilocybe azurescens mycelium and extracting psilocybin from the colonized substrate.
In order to maximize that you would want (I think) a substrate that is mostly empty space and maximum surface area. The mycelium should have easy access to enough nutes to grow vigorously, but consume them all by the time they have colonized the entire substrate.

If you just want mycelium why not do batch cultures of liquid media?

I've done liquid culture of other fungi, and it seems like solid media creates a lot more mycelium.
I don't know if that's true of azurescens or not.

What type of nutrient media were you using and how well were you airating the media?
A good liquid broth like PDY should produce a good amount of mycelium, especially if it's constantly shaken. Dextrose water won't get you a good biomass, though.

It was Potato (flake) + fructose
I have assloads of dry and liquid malt extract and some yeast nutrient crystals now that I could try.
I have light, extra dark, and wheat dry malt extract, and some dark liquid malt extract.

You could try soaking that sterilized sponge in beer and then PCing it. Works for carboard......

I had p.pulmonaris growing through the cotton lids of my spawn jars. Maybe p.azures like cotton too - especially when supplemented with something nice ...

I don't see anything wrong with that. It would be okay for the substrate to be one-time use. Think about it, mushrooms are decomposers in nature. It would be against their nature to grow on a reusable substrate.

Most water soluble vitamins and minerals would drain away after their soak.
