I have wanted to grow mush every since i found it extremly hard to find shrooms in my town, my first question is: What yeild can i expect from one cake PF style?
And since i live a cold place and its around 50F in my room ifound a nice hidden place thats hot to grow....
Only problem is it might be to hot!
My idea is down stairs their is my furnace and right up against it is a old dresser.
I could think of any way i could explainf it in words so i derw a pic.
any way i want to use it both for colonizing and fruiting but since the furnace is going on and of all day i have to find a way to keep the temp steady.
I was thinking if useing some sort of styrofoam wrap or sumthing could could keep it at a steady heat.
But alas what to do if me and my parents go away and we turn the heat off? or it gets even colder and my idiot bro turns the heat up to much?
Any ideas could greatly help me.

IMHO
Using something made from wood is going to cause problems for you.
I would eather build something from a tub like a rubbermaid
You can use small rubbermaids for your needs.
Or u can build huge holding tanks to hold smaller trays inside.
If you have access to wheat straw & dung I would go that route.
Heres a few pics.

(I now use 2 larger bins istead of the 3 small ones.
I've even stacked trays when I ran out of room.
The big tanks run on 1 cool mist hooked into the T
The ball valvs let you adjust the air flow from the cool mist.

You could use wood but only if
you made sure it was air tight
and lined in with plastic sheeting
of some sorts, a plastic container
like shown above is better though.
You could try the idea you have but
for the cost of a tank i'd go for the
tank.
Heating a container is easy using
a fishtank heater.Simple, easy and
cheap to make.
As for yeilds you can get 70 to 80g wet
but start small, plan for 35 to 50g and
as you get better the yeild will increase.

if your going for huge amounts of shrooms.
Cakes are not the way to go.
70-80 grams wet isn't very much dry.
I look at it like this.
If I'm taking the time and chance of growing I'm going large scale.
After I run my flushes I can shut down my systems and clean up.
I then don't have anything else growing and I have a huge sack of mush.
If ur planing on hooking up your friends then this is the most safe way because when people hear u have mushrooms everyones gona want them.
Then people are going to start hearing stuff.
Thats what u want to keep from happening.
I always tell people I know a guy in florida and that pretty much takes care of questions.
+ not many people know u can actually grow shrooms

I think you guys missunderstood me i have a old dresser next to the furnace down stairs not im gonna build one.
Im gonna have the shrooms in a small tank but i think that having the dresser next to the furnace will cuse it to be TO hot at time and not hot enough at other times.
is there a way to make sure that the temp stays in the same area.

you knw if you take 1 quart of colonized wbs and mix it with a half a quart of microwave sterilized vermiculite in a gallon jug of some kind you can expect about 300 grams on the first flush. and if you dunked it  well:)

buy your self a digital thermometer,the type that records the maximum and minimum temps over a 24hour period.
put this in the closet your planning to use and record the max-min temps for a few days....this will tell you if the closet is suitable.
if the maximums are no higher than around 85f and the mins no lower than around 70f then you will be able to use the closet.

Chances are, if the temperature at your place is only 50f and this dresser is in the basement, it will fluxuate too much to be stable.
It seems to me that you are trying to conseal the project at hand? All you need is access to an electrical outlet and you can stabalize and manipulate your own temperature via many techniques on this websites. Message me if you want some Ideas.
