Can one make cow manure cakes in place of BRF Cakes?
    #22000665 - 07/26/15 04:38 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Hi,
This will be my first grow and have been looking for the answer to this question for hours on here but maybe I'm not putting the right stuff in the search bar.

I was going to do BRF Cakes but I have a cow field behind my house. So I wanted to know if I could make cow manure cakes instead and grow inside?

If I can how do I do it? Will it be about the same process as BRF cakes? I read about bulk with poo but not cakes.

Thank you very much...

If you're looking to grow pan cyans, then making "poo cakes" is a good idea. Mix the cpoo with brf and some verm. Make sure to sterilize it in your PC for at least 90 minutes! Once it gets to 100%, put it through a cheese grater and spawn to bulk with more poo!!! :super:

OK thanks.
How much verm. and BRF should I mix with it? Was wanting to do 6, 1/2 pints.

Type into the top of the page In the search bar "simple pan cakes"

Click the 4th link that shows up. Or the first one then navigate to the first post in the thread

I haven't had any experience or heard of anyone using the "poo cake" recipe to germinate cube spores. I would just stick with the basic pf tek recipe. Then when it's fully colonized, you can use the cpoo as a bulk substrate.

Just make the poo cakes it will work awesome. You'll want to use a pressure cooker though

The poo has been n the field for months and had lots of rain. Should I use PC still?

For colonizing mycelium, yes, for bulk substrates, you would want to pasteurize it properly.

I'm sure that using manure would work fine. I was told a long time ago that some feed their cattle an anti fungal but I cannot find anything reliable on it. Plus as a surveyor I spend a lot of time in fields and pastures here in Texas and I haven't found one yet that didn't have plenty of copes. I can say this, it may be the climate ( which with almost 100% humidity almost 100% of the time I doubt) but I have only seen a few cubes in manure. If you do a grow log would be awesome!

I'm doing a shotgun terrarium and putting in window for indirect sunlight. Should I use a clear one or a blue one with a clear lid?

Clear. I'd do the verm, brf, water and manure cakes. I believe it's like a 1:1:1:1 ratio lol. I wouldn't do pure manure. It seems to have a hard time germinating on manure
