My Trichocereus pachanoi Crest
    #22000277 - 07/26/15 02:48 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I won this a few weeks back off that auction site. Only paid 18 bucks because of a coupon I earned through a sales promotion.

It is an excellent deal. That is a 10 inch pot. The crest is 8 inches across, and about 8 inches tall. The roots were very well taken care of. I am excited to cut some parts from it in the future, to create new crests.

Awesome looking crest, that you pratically stole (18 bucks for it is a really cheap price )
I do like the fan shaped ones, but those that bend on themselves are truly the best.
Take care of it and be careful with waterings . I lost an exemplar almost as big as yours due rot.  I only managed to save a piece that I eventually grafted to trich stock.

The total cost was 60 USD, but I had a 50 USD credit. I ended up paying 18, because the coupons cannot be used on shipping. As I understand it, they start out fan shaped, and as they continue to grow they begin to bend and form brains. I have also read that at a certain point, they stop growing into a crest, and push out some normal looking columns. It is called defasciation I think.

I have not watered it yet. I am letting the roots adjust to my soil and climate. Thanks for the heads up, I lost a beautiful 10 year old loph exemplar to rot because of my negligence. It was a stupid rookie mistake, that I should not have made with my experience. :frown:

I want to slice off one of the fan shaped mini crests to graft. I want to slice another to root on its own. I am scared to kill this one though

Don't beat yourself up, man. Everybody makes mistakes and looses plants, we tend to forget that we cannot completely control everything that relates to them. Mistakes happen and, more often than I would wish for, shit happens as well. Consider yourself a little more experienced because of that mishap and move on.
