what should I do now?
    #21998752 - 07/26/15 07:54 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

I just came back today, here is one of the oyster straw bags:

What should I do? make 4 or so bigger holes and put in a terrarium with perlite? (I don't have a green house or any FC)

What do you mean by bigger holes? Are there holes in it already? If not, you can cut three or four Xs about 1 inch in diameter  in the bag. If you're going to put it in a terrarium, I wouldn't put anything over the top. Otherwise you won't get enough  FAE. Terrariums aren't a very good choice for oysters. But I understand you work with what you have.

yep you got it. There was just tiny holes for gas exchange. I wonder if just opening the bag nicely would do as well in an open terrarium. then i could reuse the bag..

So what would be the ideal FC for oyster then?

ahh, so a closed terrarium could be the reason for these grain cakes not fruiting after nearly two weeks?

Oysters will pin regardless of FAE. They just don't grow well.

Those cakes look.... odd... Do they smell like oyster mushrooms?

They look pretty good, but you won't have much luck with oysters in a terrarium no matter what substrate you use. They need allot of FAE, which you discovered. I guess maybe you're going to put them outside?

yeah yeah, it is even better because then you don't need to worry about space taken inside.. Ill just do the incubation inside..

Btw do you know if they shoud have other flushes?

Depending on the weather conditions, I would have to guess that they would produce at least one more flush, and possibly even more.
