Hey guys. I've been away from Shroomery.org, mushroom hunting, and taking mushrooms for a few years now. That all changes tonight. Me and my girl are gonna go hit one of our old honey holes tonight. I'll post pics if we're successful, and let y'all know if we strike out. In the meantime I invite you guys to check out my photos from previous expeditions. Wish us luck!! #SENorthCarolinacubes

So we struck out. For those of you who have never seen my past posts, I don't strike out. Maybe Allen Rockerfeller can lend some insight. This is the same field all my reports and pics have come from. Same cows, good moist and hot weather, and there were other shrooms growing so I doubt fungicide is the issue. Also, the soil hadn't been disturbed. (plowed over) I know from experience that old, undisturbed grass in your fields is a good thing. So... Why no cubes. And I mean none. Not one. Any insight would be appreciated. I guess it's worth noting there were no indicator species either. The only mushies I was weren't even in or around dung. They were LWMs growing in small patches and rings in the short grass.

Sometimes this happens, I had a field produce copious amounts of pan subbs for several years straight, then one year nothing.  No indicator species, no active, no edible, nothing man!  Next year the field came back to life though, the constant ebb and flow of fungi can be rewarding, or maddening.

I suggest having numerous pastures to hunt, the more lands you have to check, the more you increase your odds of finding something you want.

Happy Hunting.

Thanks Fenn!! Unfortunately I only have this one field because some less scrupulous pickers have attracted attention from many of the farmer's around here. Fungiciding fields is commonplace around here (SE NC). I have a keen eye for spotting a productive field, many years of practice. And there are really no other fields to hunt in my vicinity that would be worth the effort. As to what you said as far as having "off years" or it being kinda cyclical, I have noticed the lack of any lawn mushrooms in my neighborhood this year. Last year I found a few Subbs here in the neighborhood, but this year there are just none of any kind. At all. I was actually thinking something along the lines of what you suggested. It's nice to hear that someone else shares that opinion. Thanks for your response and please check out my gallery from more productive years. Happy hunting!!
