Sleevebox - Glovebox/SAB Hybrid

SAB with sleeves on the holes to limit airflow. I like that I can twist the sleeves closed when I pull my arms out. No gloves, just sleeves. I spray both the inside and outside with alcohol.

What do you guys think? Is there a benefit to this, or is a SAB still better? How do you guys close your SAB when waiting for air to settle? I've already seen the screw on caps for the holes, but I don't have materials for that. I've been resorting to covering the holes with a paper towel and spraying it with alcohol to use the liquid as an adhesive. It works, but if the towels dry, they fall.

I use something similar. My sleeves are just vegetable bags with the ends sliced off taped and stretched around the holes on the air box.
They stay outside the airbox and I also wear tyvek sleeves inside. I recently shortened them because it was creating too much disturbance moving in and out of the airbox and they were getting stuck on my arms.
My thinking was that an air current would have to be roughly orthogonal to the face of the box to get in with the sleeves, were as an air current almost anything but perpendicular would cause commotion in the box without them.
EDIT: Re: closing the holes: I just spray the sleeves with bleach water then rub the surface of the sleeves together, which spreads the bleach water around and makes the sleeves stick together and seal. I then just fold them onto the top of the sab until use.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Yea that was my thought, and sleeves that are too long are quite annoying, and also move more air around.
Giving the air a more twisted path to travel seems like it would help. I also like how easy it is to twist closed when you pull your hands out.

Light an incense and set it in there. You can watch the smoke stream to see how well it's preventing air currents.

I like the idea. I'll have to do that both with and without sleeves.

It helped me design mine. I found the most significant disturbances were caused by vibrations from arms moving against the arm holes. So I removed the arm holes altogether and just have one side half open. Of course the room I use my SAB has very still air to begin with so protecting it from external currents isn't particularly important. I'm mainly just protecting it from me hovering over it while I work.

I have huge arm holes way bigger than necessary but people worry about the wrong things far too often especially with sterile technique.

An entirely open side would definitely not work for me. There is nowhere I can put a SAB like that and have still air.. I like the sleeves but they do move a good bit when I put my arms in and when I move around. I might just do the incense test without actually doing any still air work just to see how effective they are. I'd also like to see what arm movements create the most disturbances.
Thanks for pointing out the vibrations from hitting the sides part, I hadn't thought about that but I can definitely see that disturbing a lot of air.

is there an opening in the top of your SAB or is that tape?
my sab has 5" hole opening and i leave it open. doesn't cause any issues. you can also get plastic gloves that are arm length. but i do find them cumbersome at times.
something like this.

The SAB i have had since 2000 didn't have any covers or anything. it worked perfectly. i added those covers there you see in the picture. they ended up getting knocked off. haven't put them back on since and there hasn't been any issues as far as contamination. let the air settle before you do the work. standard powder free latex hand gloves work just as well.
you can also use magnetic vent covers to cover the holes while your not working to keep the air movement to a minimum. using a circle template from micheals makes easy cutting for magnetic vent covers.

If by top you mean the actual top, no that is just the tub. If you are asking about the rectangular holes, they are taped up. It used to be a monotub.
I didn't know about magnetic vent covers, I like the idea, I'll have to pick some up. I also like long gloves, I haven't been able to find them at stores, maybe I'll just buy online.
Thanks for the tips everyone, I've got a few things to try to make my SAB and sterile technique better.
