These articles will do many of you whiners some good.
Part 1
Part 2
-------------------- You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

"Recent estimates are that it costs $800 million per new drug. "
I wonder what those costs are?
Is interferon harder to make than LSD I wonder?

Nope. Prison profits are not at all obscene.

If true, it's good that none of the posters to this forum are neocons.

An 18% profit margin, if that is accurate, doesn't seem unreasonable.
I don't believe the government should protect the pharmaceutical industry from having their prices undercut from other countries .

Quote:
"Recent estimates are that it costs $800 million per new drug. "
That figure includes all costs associated with bringing a new drug to market in the US --
- research, development, and testing on anywhere from 60 to 100 new compounds for every one that finally gets government approval to be sold.
- lengthy and expensive clinical tests required by the US government lasting up to a decade
- salaries of those involved in filling in mountains of governmental forms for the same length of time
The actual cost to produce each pill once the above conditions have been satisfied varies -- some compounds can be synthesized at a very low cost; others are relatively expensive to manufacture, but in every case the actual manufacturing cost is but a small fraction of the total costs involved.

If I remember correctly, it seems that marketing and promotion are a very large part of it as well.
