The first rave I went too was right after I turned 18 in 2009. It was a completely random house in the downtown area. They had a massive ice sculpture of a naked chick in the living room, you could pour liquor into a hole and it would come out her vagina.
Also, there were several coolers of free beer. I had a couple.
DJ was in the basement, everyone was passing blunts.
Also made some new friends with some hippies who were chillin in the backyard.
That was my first rave, I guess it was more like a house party with a dubstep DJ in the basement, but it was still one of my best "Rave" experiences ever.
Nowadays I only go to a rave if there's gonna be a DJ I really really like, like infected mushroom or something. Infected mushroom always puts on an amazing live performance.
That's a house party my friend
True, but it was advertised on a Raver website which was how I found out about it, and they had bouncers checking ID's, so it was at-least 18+ only.
For me it was my intro into the rave scene, the people who threw the party were all DJ's and producers, they were the types who organized grungy warehouse raves. So I learned about a lot of upcoming events from them, that were more like actual raves.

That guy is actually part of the dancecrew called DragonHouse who often performs onstage during Thriftworks shows. They're nuts.
This thread is so off topic lol. I almost wanna make a new thread for random festival discussion. Id be in there all day.

ive been to house parties that were basically raves
no ones drinkin alcohol, everyones on fuckin drugs. DJs upstairs and downstairs playin diff genres. tanks downstairs, rave lights everywhere
i mean it was a house party but when you think about it it basically was a rave. no real rules, no permits, no security. just people partying and dancing to music

I need to go to a party like that, all the parties in my college town are just fratty keg parties.
Ive always thought about throwing an outdoor rave down south whenever i go visit my parents. They have like 3 acres and a bunch of trippy plants and fruit trees all over. Any party i threw in highschool got busted though because that town is just chock full of pissy old folks.

No, I believe that qualifies as a rave. Many of the old skool raves were very small, if you ever read about how happy hardcore came about, or watch DJ's that were a part of the scene talk about it, that whole scene came about because people rejected the "beautiful people" vibe which was present in clubs. So they would take their parties to someones house, a pasture, abandoned warehouse, etc and rave on without all the "look at me" thing happening.
That was the whole allure of happy hardcore/hardcore for me, it was just like the grateful dead scene, lots of love, family vibes, peace, love, unity, respect.
I find some of the comments on here a bit perplexing, because people are saying how well they dance, and how everyone that is not on their level is beat, seems like those folks might have missed the message of what the rave scene was all about.
As with any scene, it will change as more people turn onto it. Look at the grateful dead and how crazy that scene became after they had a number one hit on the radio in 1987 (Touch of Grey), the "touch heads" as they were referred to came in flocks to dead shows only to get fucked up, they could care less about the message that was prevalent in the scene for years. That doesn't mean that everyone that turns onto the dead nowadays is of that same thinking, which is why it's important to reflect on the roots of the scene you're in, talk to the older heads, show respect to the way things were and from that create something new, something where old mingles with new and the core values are still in place.
As long as you're there having a good time that's all that matters, take those good time vibes and spread them around so that you might help others have a good time, build your scene up with love, love makes a wonderful foundation for wonderful things to happen. Don't worry about being cool, just be happy and dance.
Anyway, I love happy hardcore/hardcore so much, dubstep is cool too but makes me feel a bit different sometimes, it doesn't exude the same vibes to my soul as some real cheesy happy hardcore/hardcore. I also like old skool house, jungle, DnB, and breaks. Really though if I like the tune that's being played, I don't care what genre it's from.

yeah thank god i hit like zero frat parties in college. maybe 1 or 2 and we didnt really stick around
those parties were fuckin crazy tho. always at the same house. it was a big party school and im extremely confident those were THE craziest parties going down at that school

Bassfreak man I'm telling you there's still heads there. It's not all EDM , it has hardstyle and trance too. ALOT of trance heads go and they are completely diff to the EDM kanditards that you don't like. EDC literally had a who's who of trance on the lineup. And to humour you -- you're beloved bassnectar was there playing on a massive stsge. Thst would have drawn a lot of them too. You should have seen how packed his set was. Like completely full and up into the bleachers and seats and around the sides of the stage. And there was DNB too like black sun empire and state of mind who are legit too. Noisia. You generalise the scene too much. I get you don't like the big corporate raves and bro fests and all that but the place is still amazing and has good peeps. It seems to be a contest with the girls of who can get away with wearing the least amount of clothes possible, and I ain't even mad about that. Some of them were fucking stunning and they were all chill too
Even if EDC inflates numbers there was definitely more then 100k per day. Easily without a doubt. When you walk around it's literally just seas of people.
Yeah I seen the type of dancing you mean. Like an up and down head banging type of thing. Like swooping up and down to the beat. That's not raging man you should see me go Spartan mode to hardstyle like we put that wobbly rocking chair shit to shame lol. Proper adrenaline rush from nothing more then the music and the vibes. I seen people doing the dubstep thing you mean and no offence but it looks a bit silly but as I said I still love seeing people in the zone and going ham so it's great. But yeah it's the sort of stuff black people would make white boy jokes about
