Was this an overly asinine reply on Facebook?
    #21992859 - 07/24/15 10:00 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Basically someone posted on Facebook "we will not stop mass shootings until we remove guns from society" which I found a tad asinine, so I made an asinine reply which was "we will not stop mass stabbings until we remove kitchen knives from society and have to eat with butter knives"

Was that a decent reply, or just..asinine, and nothing else?

Making posts about Facebook posts is in itself, asinine.

Well obviously we must either make goggles mandatory at all times that way no one ever gets poked in the eyes, or make them illegal as well

I guess it comes down to whether or not you count butter knives as kitchen knives. Either way though this thread really sucks.

Butter knives = .22

Nah even a .22 has many applications in which it's useful. A butter knife is good for like one, maybe two fucking things. That would make it a flare gun.

I hate when I'm at a restaurant and the only knife they offer is a butter knife. At least give me one of those crappy round tipped dull as hell wannabe steak knives.

Very few mass knife killings. The degree of lethality is much greater with guns. By your logic we might as well legalize every kind of weapon because there are legal objects that can be used to kill. Giving every citizen the right to possess something that can kill at long range with the pull of a trigger seems kinda strange to me. But, I'm Canadian so I never grew up with the 'right to bear arms' mentality.

You make it sound like everyone who picks up a gun is automatically a special ops sniper. Crazy people are going to kill people, taking away guns will not change that. Crazy people build bombs, crazy people commit mass poisonings, crazy people go on state wide killing sprees with duct tape, rope and a buck knife. Crazy people are going to kill people. When someone starts chanting ban the guns because that's what people are using to kill people all they're doing is hiding from the reality of the situation. Which is we have no real reliable way to determine who's going to go completely damn mental and try to kill a bunch of people. So we can't stop this shit. What everyone should be pushing for is some way to actually fix the problem rather than paint an inanimate object as the key to it all.

Canada 1.6 543 Americas    Northern America 2012

United States 4.7 14,827 Americas Northern America 2012

3.1 more murders per 100000 people per year...this is a small difference.  America a much larger sample group, maybe the murder rate just trends more toward the historical norm for that reason? still, even with all those guns in America, our murder rate doesn't look anything like these guys:

Mexico 21.5 26,037 Americas Central America 2012

a place where gun ownership is heavily restricted
or

Ethiopia 12.0 11,048 Africa Eastern Africa 2012

a place with one of the lowest gun ownership rates in the world according to

Just recently they have had several mass killings from knife wielding folks in china, as a result they passed more mental health laws regarding weapons. Imo that's the way to go rather then ban guns. Guns are fun, the crazy and depraved shouldn't ruin it for people that like to shoot on a gun range.

how different countries classify homicide plays a large factor

in the US everything is classified as an intentional homicide if your intent
was to kill, a couple of examples. if your wife decided to poison you with
anti-freeze it's an intentional homicide, also if you are attacked by some thug
and you pull a gun/knife or even use your bare hands and kill the person in
self defense it's an intentional homicide. in countries like japan a man can
stab 30 people to death, cut his own throat and die and none of them are listed
as homicides... these statistics are very misleading

I think the increased level of disclosure tends to make people nicer. If people here had their melon for an avatar and their real name for a screen name, theyd be less inclined to be jerks.

As for me pushing a racist agenda, that's just in the eye of the fucked up conservative troll beholder.
