Mads pans

This is my 3rd attempt at panaeolus cyanescens (Jamaican variety) after 2 failures, I figured I should document and keep track of this. 3rd time's the charm hopefully!
July 16th I cased and fruited them

July 22nd in the morning initial pins found on tray 1:

In the evening:
July 23rd:
lookin a little dwarfy. Lowered the fae a bunch/raised humidity. I had no top holes stuffed. Stuffed them all loosely.
2nd and 3rd trays I spotted pins
July 24th: 1st tray:
not sure if it's just a big ass pin, or if that's just matured really small. I'm hoping it's the first one xD. It's only been 2 days since initial pins so..
2nd one:
this one's looking like it'll grow tall. The sub's like a 1/4" thinner at least.
Tray 3:

Tray 4 is just beginning to pin. I can't believe my first 2 attempts I couldn't get it to pin. Now I have all my trays pinning

Lookin good , I wanna try growin some pans as well. Did you make "poo" cakes or did you germinate spores on agar first and then transfer a wedge to grains? Also, what bulk ratios did you use?

Thanks pasty, cron and psilo ! This is my first time seeing them in person. It's so weird to see pins with no veils! Lol
I did agar > lc > oats > 1-1.5" deep 90% manure, and 10% straw. Cased with 50/50 verm and cactus soil.
Pint jar spawned to 1-1.5 qts of bulk. So a 1:2-1:3 spawn ratio

That's a sweet job with those pan cyans. Is that horse or cow manure? Field collected? I hope you trays yield well for you.

Thanks guys!
@alkaloids it's horse manure. Collected dry from the fields on my property. I seriously hope I get good yields too. I can't wait to see what they look like a few days from now. I want some great clones, and hopefully a bunch of prints!

This is both a success and a failure I mean I got like no stems. But I got massive caps that I'm getting nice big prints out of so I guess it's a win and lose. I also got some nice tissue for cloning. I'm going to make my subs thinner next time and my casings more shallow. Also going to not leave for 3 days lol. I think they needed more fae and a thinner sub? What do you guys think? Also stopped misting the moment I got pins too.
At least I got enough for me to trip, and some clones/prints for my future projects

@ the no stems. I'd like to hear more on this as well. I'm not ready to move up to these guys yet but at least you did get some fruits! I'd say it was a success because we all learn from our "failures".

Ikr. It's sad, but I'm trying to learn. I hope someone knows what happened. I've been reading a bunch of conflicting info on it. Some say not enough fae and others say not enough humidity lol.
I'm definitely making a thinner sub next time too

got to up that fae. pans need far more air exchanges per hour than cubes.

Correct. Pans are subtropical specie as opposed to their tropical cousins cubensis and are therefore less CO2 tolorant then cubes.

I thought so. I'll have to update my next grow. I'll get it done right for sure! This is the furthest I've come so far. I hope it's better next time

I got a Pan Jam print. Haven't touched it.
I'll wait for the others to respond

I know that this thread is pretty old, but I'm literally working on this exact thing, I honestly think I may have bought the exact same bins as you, however I thought I was being ingenuitive, it makes me happy that somebody else already has experience doing it.
If you'd rather I PM you than dredge this up let me know but I've got a couple questions.
Hole configuration is a big one. Those little bins are 4" but I only want 2" of substrate, should I put holes in both the outer tub and the inner tubs? Outer tub at 4" and inner tubs right above substrate level? Stuff only the outer holes.
Do you have any pictures of your hole config?

I have 4 bottom and 4 top holes. I don't stuff any of the top holes.
I'm thinking this grow actually wasn't an fae problem. I've tried this particular one again twice with those same spores and they always come out like that. I call it pan cyan super strain lol..
I'm trying out different types of pans now to see if I'm right, because I know the mono confutation had a great environment to grow in. Im trying pan cambos, trops, and cyans now. I'll send a link to it from here when the time comes

I was thinking of doing quite a few more holes than that as everyone talks about how much more fae they need. Those were pretty interesting fruits, short and stubby.
I'm also doing a mixture, couple varieties of cambo, cyan, and a vendor trop which honestly isn't doing well.
Pretty cool that we're doing the same thing at the same time, good luck to you I hope it goes well I'm going to keep tabs on it.
