Who needs multiple flushes? 2
#21991976 - 07/24/15 07:25 PM (8 years, 6 months ago) |
|
|
When you can get it all in the first flush
The breakdown, my favorite mini mono, 2 quarts of wheat and millet spawn, 4 quarts of coir verm. One flush and done. I like to get as much as I can first flush, less loss through risk of contam later, more energy expended into fruiting, less time invested in fruiting.
Gill shot

Fruits jammed right in

Final wet weight. . .

I always am seeing people impressed by subs flushing 7 times. Fact is that with a good culture and great condtions there is no need to wait that long and ya get more in the end. Think about it.

Half that weight is just verm and coir.
Just kidding.
I thought that was standard size mono at first.
Well done as usual. It has been fun watching the journey of ol' Rustywhyte.

I feel the same even with spawn jars that have stalled or just arent up to par with the others.
I think its important to be patient but at the same time you shouldnt waste another couple weeks trying to flush another 20g out of a spent tray

Thanks guys. The point of this post is to illustrate a few things tho.
First spawn ratio is important. 1:2 is as low as I go.
Second a casing really helps. Its not required to see fruits but all my best results are cased.
Third is that FAE is super important. People are always sweating about RH. Case that shit and blast the FAE FTW

Most of my cased grows never see a second flush. Its usually totally spent by that point.

Wow, that is impressive. Do you feel a thinner substrate than the typical 4" monitub sub contributes to this?
I almost got this type of yield from a lasagnia pan of ms, in 8 flushes lol. I take it this type of insane flush pretty much requires an excellent culture. Also curious how heavily you load your qt jars/what you estimate the volume of spawn to be.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

I need to join the cool kids club and start doing open air trays of AA+ too!
Gotta go buy some wheat berries and borrow some peat moss from my friend.
Is a simple 50/50 good for open airs?

I do 3"-3.5" for 66 quart and 2.5 for my minis. I find a 4" rarely gives a high enough BE to justify it.
This tub is not AA+, I haven't grown AA+ in over a year. I should do it again though.

Very nice demonstration of your point Pasty. It more or less mirrors my feelings on the topic. I'm fine with two flushes, but after that it just seems like diminishing returns. You said you use 1:2 ratio? Looks like it is working well.

Any theories as to why? Too much distance to migrate nurtients n water as efficiently, CO2 production too high for the monotub design to handle as effectively, co2 metabolite buildup inside the sub?
I guess it would be easy to test higher sub depths in a greenhouse and get rid of the fc co2 dispersion factor.

Man I must say these RW have beem killin it for me too. That tub was my phenotype clone from F2 but even the ms from F3 did very well for me. The retard tub put out 331 dry grams first flush. I can't wait to try the fourth generation.

Final update. After drying and cleaning this tub came in at 163 grams dry. That's 2 quarts spawn 4 quarts coir/verm, no poo, no gypsum, no unicorn piss. Just hard hitting genetics and clean spawn. I can grow this forever, anywhere anytime.
To all the noobs and lurkers wondering if cloning and casing or all that little stuff that everyone figures is too much trouble is worth it, the answer is yes. They do matter. Do it and have killer grows.

The point is that you can have first flushes like that. Everyone can. Y'all need to start focusing on the right stuff is all. I might come across as a dick to people but all I really want is to see everyone posting up tubs like this. It can be done I promise

You and a few others have motivated me to go to the next level. Pins and tissue from clusters to agar and some invitro culturing looking for that magic clone culture that explodes. It's amazing to me what you guys are accomplishing. I've got some "pasty-plates" going right now! Going to make another transfer this week then give them a go to see what they produce.
I saw a post you made that really perked my attention something to the effect that 90% of your keeper clones/cultures came from pins off of AGAR!! I have never heard that before ... That was a totally unique insight. I"m going to change up my agar formula as a direct result of that.

Yup invitro pins usually do killer. Here is the one that made this tub.

Normally i would clone it before it gets that mature but I was looking for specific traits.

What would you say is the right formula for agar that would support pinning? Currently I do a agar/LME combo ... would you suggest more of an Agar/Grain water with a higher ratio of grain water : water as a better way to do it?

Malt is one of the worst for invitro pinning IME. Undiluted grain water is great. So is PDA as well as dog food agar. Get the nutes up to around 2.5-3% and have the plates a touch thicker to support pins.

Yea. 8 is average. Best was 13. I wrote something awhile back in aaw about how if you have a room full of tubs, you'd get between 40%-%50% more weight in a years time by just doing 1st flushes as opposed to 1st and 2nd. Wish i knew where that post was

I don't even care about that, I just pulled 175% BE from one flush. No way it puts out a second.

My whole theory on multiple flushes is that the better the genetics the more flushes pop out. Most flushes I've gotten is 4-6

But what is your BE? If its not exceeding 100% you're not getting anywhere. This clone put out 5.7 dry oz first flush from 2 quarts of spawn. I doubt you could match that with 6 flushes. Too much wasted energy. However mine was all harvested and in hand before Your second flush even pinned. See the difference? Still think the genetics are not good cause it only produced one flush? Think about it.

Hey Pasty (or anyone else), I've been wondering if you've ever tried unpasturized jiffy as a casing? I saw an old RR post where he said jiffy didn't need to be pasteurized when used as a casing.
I figure if I could case and do a one flush tub if contams set in after the first flush.. well who cares!

Well jiffy isn't sold here so I can't say I have ever used it. But it sure seems popular so sometimes I wonder what I'm missing.

With 5 quarts of spawn on a 66qt tub I got about 3 oz
After seeing this I will be taking my clones straight to mini tubs
I will replicate this to the best of my ability

My last 66 quart put out 331 dry grams. Its not the tub size, its a combo of good genetics and how you dial it in. FAE is key.

Well step 1. I claimed over 7 tissue samples from several clusters
Id imagine that those are "good" genetics or atleast a higher rate of clusters
As for dialing in, I find that I have the most trouble with my top holes, can't seem to get the line of no condensation frank shows in his tek
