this is good hopefully people get traumatized from the realism of graphic shooting games and their lives ruined permanently

i doubt we are going to see games that actually look like that for a few years at least.
it probably took a team weeks to make that showcase demo, which is only a small house with no moving objects. and only 3 minutes long
it would take 10 years to make an entire game that looks like that without tons of content recycling

Read an article not too long ago about how in the very near future video games will be indistinguishable from reality.
The Unreal Engine is certainly moving us closer to that prediction. I mean clearly that's very hard to tell the difference between reality and not, but in realistic applications I wonder if it'd still be so hard to tell the difference.

On their asset store you can purchase what i'm pretty sure are the models+textures to make that. No clue what kind of beast hardware something like that would require though.
https://www.unrealengine.com/profile/Evermotion
Found some examples of stuff people have made with that its pretty similar looking.

i doubt the hardware you need to run it is all that powerful, the second video i linked was run on
╔►CPU:I7-4790K @ 4.8Ghz 1.32Vc + RAIJINTEK Triton watercooler ╔►GPU: GTX 980 Ti EVGA Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ OCed = 1366mhz core / 4100mhz Memory ╔►MB:Asrock Z97 Extreme 4 ╔►Ram:8 GB Ram DDR3 2133 Mhz Ram G.Skill ╔►HDD:1000 GB Sata 3.0 6 Gb/s Harddrive + 2TB hdd ╔►PSU:630 Watt Thermaltake 80+ Germany
its probably a 1300$(1400$ if you include the rediculous and unecessary watercooling) rig right now, but next year itll drop in price by a 1/3rd probably. and drop to less than half of that in 2 years

Now add in the possibilities of the vr tech coming out in the near future and things will get pretty interesting. Unless our future self is already experiencing the peak of vr tech right now.....

Took one guy three weeks to make it. Nice erroneous assumption bruv
Edit: And the specs for the hardware used in the demo are in the description:
Intel Core i7 4770K 4x 3.5 GHz 16 GB DDR3 RAM GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB
Not even that ridiculous.

i still doubt you're going to see games with photo realism, and i never said the hardware was the problem. in fact i posted some hardware specs in my last post, although they were related to a different video.
it just takes too long to make a game that looks like that.
maybe in 4 or 5 years we'll see something along those lines, for now the unreal 4 engine still has some epic capabilities. and i honestly couldn't care less about photo realism. seems silly and cost inefficient.

Yeah man there was some 25k event not too long ago for infrastructure/architecture with UE4.
Pretty amazing what the engine can do

There are beginning to be awesome shortcuts in graphics - laser/rangefinder/camera combo thangs that both scan a 3d model and texture it based on real world input are beginning to be a thing... which saves an immense amount of time, especially with things like trees... etc.

Gresh has it right, sadly.
The demo is great, and yes it's in real time, but pay attention to the fact that the environment is (almost?) entirely static. This allows them to "pre-bake" a lot of the lighting and rendering without having to generate it on the fly. That's why it looks so damn good, there's a lot of clever optimization in the demo that the audience might not be aware of. Much of that optimization doesn't transfer over to real video games.
That said it's still impressive.

I'm thinking of learning to use Unreal Engine... it being free and all, - doesn't look too difficult to work about itself, and the possibilities

yeah i've been looking at both of them, unity has a lot more stuff in their asset store tho. apparently unreal 4 is a lot buggier.
