Do I need gloves to apply pastuerized casing layer?

I have a tub that is fully colonized (contamination resistant), but am wondering if I wash my hands and apply alcohol to them without gloves can I handle the casing layer with my bare hands?
I would use gloves but rather ask before running out to home depot and grabbing some.
I searched for a couple minutes and came up with nothing

It's a good idea to use gloves. You could wash the shit out of your hands but you'll still sweat into it.

you could sneeze into it. besides the fact that your handling it in open air your hands unless covered in shit are alright. the whole point of pasteurization is so that you can have it exposed for a few days

yea but it never hurts to take extra measures for added security. I agree with Inocuole. Never hurts to use gloves.

You need vinyl exam gloves you find at a drug store, not gardening gloves.

Sweat isn't a problem. The main thing to worry about is transferring mold from other sources on your hands. We have a tendency to touch all sorts of crap without even thinking about it. Far more than what's going to be floating around in the air. Whether you benefit from using glove or not is something you'll have to determine from your own experience as we're all working in different environments.

What are you applying casing to that requires sterile conditions?

I try not to let my hand hover over any open jars. And when I do transfers I try not to keep any jar lid open for more than 5 seconds. I've had low contaminate rates thus far.

Exactly. Well put Kizzle.
I find all gloves to be uncomfortable and don't wear them when doing sterile work generally. Rigorous attention to cleanliness and proper handling procedures go a long ways.

Perhaps that is true. I do type very slowly. but i also prefer to use as little plastics and other toxic artificial elements as possible. So if i can avoid adding more to the waste stream, then i do.
For people who can not wash their hands adequately for whatever reason gloves are extremely helpful. Working in a professional bio-engineering and molecular biology lab we found it only necessary to wear gloves to prevent our DNA from contaminating PCR samples and the like. Even in micro labs i did plenty of uncontaminated work without gloves. But there are still valid reasons for people to choose wearing them.

I haven't worn a pair of gloves in years unless it was cold out.
