Does anyone know what this is?

I inoculated my BRF jars 3 days ago. Yesterday I noticed this dark spot on one of my jars:
Today I noticed these on two others. They appear to be identical to the first one:
Are these contams? Would contams even show this early?

Those are toast. Either bad syringe or bad procedure.
Yeah they would show this early. Lots of contams will germinate and grow at a faster rate.

How unfortunate. This is my first grow and my syringe was from a sponsor, so it was probably poor procedure. Would it be worth it to PC, dump, and reuse the jars? I heard it could really stink up the house.

You can also throw it into a contamination pile, soap and water to clean the jars, and re sterilize when they're all prepped, like you normally would.
Just because spores came from a sponsor doesn't mean it was clean. Pf tek is just really lenient and won't contam as easy. Put those same spores under a scope or onto agar, and you'll see lots of contams. There's no such thing as sterile spores. They were fruited in open air after all. Try out agar on that syringe. Get some clean transfers going

Strange, I always read that you should never open a contaminated jar unless you've sterilized it first. Either way, I think I'll take your advice. I've heard agar is a good way to hone your sterile procedure, and maybe I'll get lucky and end up with a monoculture with strong genetics. Thank you for your input!

No problem. I definitely would be down to salvage that syringe. I mean get more if you want, but that syringe isn't garbage yet.
As for the pcing contaminations, it is good practice, but it kills the mycelium . I personally like to make a contamination pile outside. I still get mushrooms from it, and I live in harsh as balls Canada. More than 4000 km north from where cubes normally are.

I had no idea that's what you meant. Is that safe? Wouldn't the myc eat the contaminant and potential toxins?

100% safe. Every single mushroom ever found in the wild comes from a contaminated substrate. You just don't want any visible molds on the mushrooms themselves. No one's ever gone to the hospital from a contaminated substrate. The myc will isolate it and cover it, but never eat it up.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up. I checked out your grow log and holy shit, man. I can only imagine how great it must have felt like to have that work out so damn well.
I'm gonna order an agar mix and some petri dishes ASAP. Take care, man.

I got around 3 pounds out of it overall. Yeah I was shittin bricks. I was not expecting it to be anywhere near that successful lol.
Get your ass on the agar train man. Once you go there, you never go back. Without agar I'd have quit due to contamination frustrations long ago
