How do you cope with the insecurity of life and the inevitability of death?
#21987741 - 07/23/15 11:09 PM (8 years, 6 months ago) |

How do you cope with the stress of the inevitability of death, and the constant risk of things like asteroid strikes, supervolcano eruptions, car crashes, plagues, and global extinction level events?
How do you live a happy life? How do you stay peaceful and calm? How do you deal with anxiety and depression? How do you enjoy life?
What are your secrets to living a good life?
Please share!
Mine are kratom, exercise, meditation, weed, cuddling and cats.

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say I live a happy life, but in general I tend to just not think about these things. Most are entirely out of my control anyways, so worrying about them does no good. I'm well aware that any moment the entire world could change and we could even be looking at total extinction, but like I said, it's pretty much out of my hands. Not driving doesn't guarantee you won't die in a car crash, being a germophobe doesn't mean you won't end up dying of some plague, spending billions on research to counter asteroid strikes wouldn't prevent you from being killed by one etc etc. Humans like to exist under the illusion that they have control, when we don't. Shit hits the fan, and it's a sudden crisis because that illusion of control is shattered. Someone like me is better equipped to deal with such things, because I never believed I was in control to begin with. Rather than reacting to my shattered beliefs, I can react to the situation itself.
--------------------
With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline

Young people can die at any second, just like old people
The world could be destroyed at any second

If the endgame of all life is death then fear is a misplaced emotion. It makes me embrace it, to live with passion and never fear the unknown. To crush out my own weakness's and have myself become fully realized. Death is nothing, this moment is everything.

1. All men know that beauty and ugliness are correlatives, as are skill and clumsiness; one implies and suggests the other.
2. So also existence and non-existence pose the one the other; so also is it with ease and difficulty, length and shortness; height and lowness. Also music exists through harmony of opposites; time and space depend upon contraposition.
3. By the use of this method, the sage can fulfil his will without action, and utter his word without speech.
4. All things arise without diffidence; they grow, and none interferes; they change according to their natural order, without lust of result. The work is accomplished; yet continueth in its orbit, without goal. This work is done unconsciously; this is {2} why its energy is indefatigable.

Quote:
“To fear death, gentlemen, is no other than to think oneself wise when one is not, to think one knows what one does not know. No one knows whether death may not be the greatest of all blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they knew that it is the greatest of evils.”
Quote:
3. Every man and every woman is a star.
4. Every number is infinite; there is no difference.
6. Be thou Hadit, my secret centre, my heart & my tongue!
10. Let my servants be few & secret: they shall rule the many & the known.
11. These are fools that men adore; both their Gods & their men are fools.
12. Come forth, o children, under the stars, & take your fill of love!
13. I am above you and in you. My ecstasy is in yours. My joy is to see your joy.
9. Remember all ye that existence is pure joy; that all the sorrows are but as shadows; they pass & are done; but there is that which remains.
27. Then the priest answered & said unto the Queen of Space, kissing her lovely brows, and the dew of her light bathing his whole body in a sweet-smelling perfume of sweat: O Nuit, continuous one of Heaven, let it be ever thus; that men speak not of Thee as One but as None; and let them speak not of thee at all, since thou art continuous!
Quote:
1. And here they ask: 'What is the beginning of this day?' Let him say: 'Mind and speech 2.'
2. All desires dwell in the one (mind), the other yields all desires.
3. All desires dwell in the mind, for with the mind he conceives all desires.
4. All desires come to him who knows this.
5. Speech yields all desires, for with speech he declares all his desires.
6. Speech yields all desires to him who knows this.
Quote:
LISTEN AGAIN to thine own voice within thee. Is not Hadit the flame that burns in every heart of man, and in the core of every star? Is not He Life, and the giver of Life? And is not therefore the knowledge of Him the knowledge of Death? For it hath been shown unto thee in many other places how Death and Love be twins. Now art thou the hunter, and Death rideth beside thee with his horse and spear as thou chasest thy Will through the forests of Eternity, whose trees are the hair of Nuit thy mistress! Thrill with the joy of life and death! Know, hunter mighty and swift, the quarry turns to bay! Thou hast but to make one sharp thrust, and thou hast won. The Virgin of Eternity lies supine at thy mercy, and thou art Pan! Thy death shall be the seal of the promise of our agelong love. Hast thou not striven to the inmost in thee? Death is the crown of all. Harden! Hold up thyself! Lift thine head! breathe not so deep--die!

Well I had to let weed go because of future job prospects so now it's finding a career path, building my arc, and finding a bad bitch to have children with. I also listen to music, chill with friends, and do random vacations. I also like kratom but I spiral out with that shit and then when I run out I feel like shit.

Most people on here who do MXE have radical views on the universe and things tapping into their brains or technology about to wipe us out like terminator 2.. so I think MXE would have a bad rep imo... maybe fun once but so is everything.

After having a few OBEs the uncertainty of death is no longer there. This doesn't lead to the urge to jump off a bridge or anything, but it removes the fear dying after knowing that you can have consciousness outside of your physical body. Life goes on without the need of your body. Unless there's some sort of bluetooth connectivity that I am unaware of considering I never saw a cord attached that others have reported. We're all built the same and everyone has this ability.

You forgot to worry about our atmosphere being stripped away when we get hit with a gamma ray burst from a star that exploded hundreds of light years away.
Anyways I actually wonder why many people searched for ways to be immortal. I don't want to die young but I would never want to live forever

Pff, death comes for us all, it's no biggy. Makes your life seem all the more precious now, doesn't it? Kind of a shame to waste in on worrying about the inevitable, come to think of it.

Accept impermanence. How to do that? Well that's not so easy I guess. Meditation and psychedelic "death" have both helped me learn to embrace the fact that my existence isn't permanent. Of course that's easy to say when I'm not currently looking death in the face. But I guess in a way we all kinda are really.
