I just remembered I made this about a year and a half ago.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19380210

Its instructions on how to make a character for people that are either rusty to how this works or are complete noobies.

It's a bit simplified and I left a few things out but I hope it can help someone out there!

Where were you pulling your stats from? They should be the same unless you went with an example from a more specific supplement.

guess I was just mis-remembering about the armor, coulda swore it was +1 AC but you're right.

speaking of hair whipping, am I the only girl in our party? This will end badly.

So get this, there is a piece of thief equipment that comes with  the standard thieves tools, but it isn't described in the PHB. (its called a skeleton key)

I had to dig up a description from the web, which was not easy, but it leaves me wondering where a description was printed?? DMG perhaps?

anyway here's the description for skeleton keys, which come with every thief's tool kit

"Many door locks have a similar design and thus can be unlocked by a similar key. A skeleton key may be tried on any standard door lock that uses a key, even if you don’t have the Disable Device skill. You use the key’s Disable Device bonus of +10 rather than your own total; you cannot take 10 when using a skeleton key. The key only gets one roll for any particular lock. If the roll fails, the key is unable to open or close that lock. Inferior skeleton keys may only have a +5 bonus."

I could just give these to one of you guys since it requires no skill to use.

I don't know that sounds like something you would have to do a quest or something to find not just start with.

Can anyone post links to any DnD books, resources or whatever you are using?

I am going to try and torrent them all.

So to be absolutely clear what edition of DnD resources should I be looking for? For group 1?

I got the 3.5 PH, but this link helped me, it has all the rules and it's easier to click around to find what you want rather than try and find it in the ebook.  http://www.d20srd.org/

And DM wanted us to make our character sheets on http://www.myth-weavers.com/
I think you have to create an account to use the character sheeets

yeah I was surprised as it seemed OP.

I'd be fine with it just being an un-carved key

Wait so we get to assign 39 attribute points , but do I then make the racial adjustments? I think an elf gets +2 intelligence, -2 constitution right?

It's by the 32 point system that the DM posted around the 6th page of the thread, after that you can apply the racial modifiers.

How do we figure out our HP?

the wizards base hp is 4 at level one, but how do we figure our hp at level 3?

Also how many bonus languages do I get? One for each point of intelligence bonus?

I think you mean your HD is 4d, you apply 4 to what ever you get by rolling a 4d for each subsequent level after 1.

One for each point sounds right, still haven't picked 1 or 2 languages yet because I'm waiting to see what isn't covered by the other characters.

its +2 dex and -2 con for elves. Yes you still factor in racial modifiers

and yeah wizards are d4. your first level you get the max roll, then just roll d4 two more times and thats your health. (you add constitution mod to any health rolls)

And can we buy magic items and stuff with that or only basic equipment? Anyone have a page where I can "shop"?

Do we have mounts? Should I spend 200 gold on a riding horse?

I personally avoided magic items but again
