For Leary Fan and all others who love the plants. Remember it was Albert hofmann who co-authored the books with Richard Schultes, Plants of the gods and Botany and Chemistry of the Hallucinogens.
Here in the first image is Albert Hofmann and Dr. Stanley Krippner, another initiate of Maria Sabina and harvard. Dr. Krippner runs the Saybrooke Institute in San Francisco or nearby somewhere.
And here beside what was referred to as their Magic Bus are from left to right, Stanley Krippner, Albert Hofmann, Jan Weinhold and their driver who owns the van, Jan Wacker, here in Switzerland.

Thanks a lot MJ. These are great photos.
Do you have any idea if Mr. Hoffman partook in any of those shrooms?

Albert Hofmann only tripped a total of 12 times or so in his life. He had reportedly consumed LSD, Shrooms and Salvia divinorum, the latter two with Maria Sabina oin Oaxaca in the early 1960s.

dude, only 12 times? where did you verify this? I mean, why not more often? Even once a year would really be worthwhile..

No, that is his business and personally he was straight and remained straight throughout all of his years. Even though he lectured about LSD. He also wished there was a magic pill which could take him from one spot to anouther so he wouldn't have to fly to get some where.
Many of us in the Drug-Subculture in America and elsewhere forget that when Wasson, Hofmann, Weil, LaBarre, Metzner, LEary, Huxley, Ginsburg, Robert Graves, Gunther Weil, and many others first did these entheogens and psychedelic drugs they were not illegal.
After they became illegal in most countrries int he middle and late 1960s, Hofmann had a scheduled permit to handle LSD in Switzerland after it was made illegal. They were people who objected to widespread drug use originally and did not do much after laws were passed in most countries making them illegal. Except for Tim LEary and his numerous friends who thought the gifted peoples should be allowed free access to any hallucinogen.
In 1977 when I first met Albert hofmann, I watched a long-haired hippie go over and ask him if he could spare a few hits of acid for his friends.
Hofmann was startled at the audacity of a stranger asking him for an illegal substance.
It was just not his trip. Schultes was another who ate numerous South American plant/drugs AND/OR snorted them and wrote abnout their botanical aspects but never wrote about his experiences on them...Hre never ate shrooms and had no desire to.
But he did do Peyote with Weston LaBarre of Duke university in the 1930s.. After that he switched from medicine to Economic Botany and got funding to go to Mexico where he and Blas Pablo Reko collected the first good specimens of susupect psilocybian mushrooms and sent them to harvard along with morning glory seeds.
While Schultes went to Mexico, LaBarre wrote the difinitive book on Peyote, "The Peyote Cult." This is the book all Indians use when chartering a new Peyote Church to set up the church and its directives. And what is intersting is that LaBarre only ate peyote twice in his whole life and his book is the difinitive Peyote Book on the Ritual used in the ceremony by The Native American Church.
LaBarre also wrote the Ghost Dance: The Origins of Religion, all about shamanism and hallucinogens in primitive cultures.
Andrew Weil, was instrumental in getting Tim Leary and Richard Alpert (Baba Ram Dass) fired from Harvard later got a $150,000 grant to go to South AMerica and write about the use of entheogenic plants amongst native peoples. The susbsequesnt essays appeared in Economic Botany and the Harvard Botanical Museum Leaflets and Journal of Altered States of Consciousness, etc.
He later published his persoanl; use and observations on numerous drugs in his book, Marriage of the Sun and the Moon, all based on his published journal papers..
Many of the scholars who wrote about these plants did not like the general population using illict drugs, since when they did them there were no law against them.
The fact that Hofmann only used drugs 12 times is his life is his business and I never asked him anything about that.
He just retired three years ago. I lectured with him in Amsterdam in 1999 where he again gave the same talk on his disvoery of LSD to his eventual synthesis of the LSA found in Mexican morning glory seeds which he called the magic cirlce. That also included his research period with the sacred mushrooms.
He has given that exact same lecture numerous times every year since the early 1960s and at the first large conference on hallucinogens "The Search for Psychoative Drugs, later published in the United nations bulletin on Narcotics and edited by Effron That conference was held in San Francisco in 1967 and was the first conference devoted entirely to hallucinogenic substances. That conference opened the door to many such conference since then..
Not sure currently if he is lecturing still. The last I heard form him was about three years ago when he wrote me a short note which is in my files.

Hofmann never received a penny for LSD. HE was an employee of Sandoz and they own the patents.
And Dick Schultes died several years ago in the early or middle 1990s.
Have a shroomy day
