long soft hairs on cap
    #21986336 - 07/23/15 05:34 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Habitat:
In mostly oak woods on decaying wood, in southwest Michigan. July 23.

Other information:
I've never encountered this mushroom. There were probably half a dozen total, some solitary, some grouped, all on the same log. I thought it would be easy to identify but no luck.

I think its a fairly ordinary Mycena, something like M. haematopus (sp?) that's been infected.

Check to see if the stems exude a red juice when broken.

Pretty cool looking!

I guess I need to familiarize myself with infected mushrooms. Thanks!

Yup, good suggestion. It's infected with Spinellus fusiger or similar.
