they look like california poppies to me but ive never seen any poppies irl before. the reason i think theyre not papaver somniferum is an oval pod with hairy stems. whatta ya think?
 papaver somniferum? orientals? California poppy?

That's not a Cali poppy pod, California poppy pods are thin and long. As for which one it is idk lol, I just live in Cali so I knew that I could rule that one out for you

I don't thik they're somniferum's either. One of the other species, something like Papaver rhoeas.

That's where I was going as well Karode. Some Somni's will have a few hairs, but if the whole stem and/ or plant is hairy, it's not what you're after.
Did the plant look anything like this? Sorry I don't have a clear pic of a pod.

yea it looks similar to that. ill be going back over there monday and ill get some pics of the actual plant.

Here's a better pic of some heads. I'm starting to think you may possibly have Oriental... Either way, it's defi Italy not a P.Som. Sorry ... 
On the Brit side they do make beautiful flowers... Could be a great addition to the garden if u have one...
