lactarius piperatus?
    #21983515 - 07/23/15 07:58 AM (8 years, 6 months ago)

This is, I believe a lactarius...although there was very little noticeable latex. The thing that stuck out to me was how they smelled incredibly strong like iodine or some other chemical. I couldn't get the smell off my fingers until I got home and washed them with dawn. This is the first time I've run across these and was hoping someone could confirm. The gills were crowded and decurrent...cream colored....thanks!

Looks kinda of like a Russula to me, did you make a spore print?

I thought it looked more like a Russula as well.  OP, was there latex in small amounts or was there none? Kinda hard to tell what you meant in your post.

There were lactarius close to it that def. bled a latex. This one, I just broke a small piece off at the edge of the pileus and there was no bleeding...It very well may be a russula ..but I've never come across one with such a strong odor...and, no...I didn't print it. Just figured either one would be white.

Is there a russula that smells like iodine?...because that was the number 1 difference that stuck out.
