Anyone aware of this?
    #2198250 - 12/23/03 06:45 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

From
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/24245

Table IV
Variation of the amounts of alkaloids in the mycelium of Psilocybe azurescens
depending on the concentration of malt extract in solidified agar (1,5%)
after 3 weeks of colonization.

1% Malt Extract: 0.31% Psilocybin dry weight, 0.12% Psilocin, 0.12% Baeocyst.
2% Malt Extract: 0.25% Psilocybin dry weight, 0.09% Psilocin, 0.08% Baeocyst.
3% Malt Extract: 0.28% Psilocybin dry weight, 0.08% Psilocin, 0.05% Baeocyst.
4% Malt Extract: 0.27% Psilocybin dry weight, 0.04% Psilocin, 0.03% Baeocyst.
5% Malt Extract: 0.25% Psilocybin dry weight, 0.02% Psilocybin, 0% Baeocystin
6% Malt Extract: 0.18% Psilocybin dry weight, 0% Psilocin, 0% Baeocystin
8% Malt Extract: 0.05% Psilocybin dry weight, 0% Psilocin, 0% Baeocystin
10% Malt Extract: At and above 10% malt extract, the mycelium is non-blueing.

So more is not always better......

No -- I was not aware of this. Isn't that comparable with the dry weight of cubensis fruitbodies?

It would be great if this was right next to a chart for the dry weight of the cells. One might be able to culture this, then, and dry + extract it and get a good yeild of psilocybin.

Thanks for posting that, Anno!

I think I have read the cyanescens produces no alkaloids in liquid culture. Sorry no links .

Thanks.

Yes everything has an upper and lower limit to be efficient.

I wonder how accurate that would be at 6 weeks or more!!!

Personally, i would imagine that concentrations below some limit, would produce more alkaloids later. At three weeks, the mycelium might still be adding mass off of the extra nutrients, as long as growth continues, alkaloid production will probably remain lower.

Teonan may have a point there, although I'm not to experienced on this. It would seem to me like the mycelium would be absorbing the nutrients and start the production of alkaloids later. Ill check that link out tomorrow, but maybe you can tell me, has there been such a test for different agar recipes?

And thanks for the link

Kinda interesting..That could mean that one could ship live cultures through customs without even risking beeing caught sending/receiving a scheduled substance.

Are the mycelium producing active substances if transfered to a 1% Agar mix later on..??[which i assume.]

peace..

Cool, how did you measure the alkaloidal content? Cromatugraphy? How does this work?

Interesting indeed , makes me wonder if there is a downlimit of % of psilocybine that can be detected ,like in the 10% malt ?And how would the percentages of malt influence psilocybine content later on (a comparison at time of fruiting) , and would that be applicable to cubensis as well , and another question that pops up : could that be beneficial in liquid cultures .
With so many minds connected ,we're bound to make progress !
Best wishes to you all
